Cam’s NXT Recap: 12.5.12

Here we are again from the NXT arena, Michael McGillicutty’s music hit as the show opened up; his opponent was the WWE’s United States Champion Antonio Cesaro. Cesaro began slapping at the chest of McGillicutty several times until McGillicutty took a few shots of his own. Cesaro head butted McGillicutty knocking him down. Antonio stared down members of the live audience while McGillicutty recovered and hit a flying close line on Cesaro. Michael attempted the pin but Cesaro kicked out at two. The crowd, vocally getting behind McGillicutty, watched as Michael attempted to keep up the fast pace but Cesaro wasn’t fooled long and knocked down the son of Mr. Perfect. Cesaro picked and throw down McGillicutty but again just for a two count. Cesaro applied a ground submission move until McGillicutty used all his power to get out of the move. McGillicutty hit another big closesline, trying to gain momentum hit Cesaro with a big boot to the face for a near fall. McGillicutty attempted to throw Cesaro into the corner but Antonio reversed and throw McGillicutty into the air and hit his big elbow followed by the reverse pile driver for the 1,2,3.

Axl Keegan, making his NXT debut, would take on Bo Dallas for his first opponent. The two began with a class tie up, Dallas held Keegan’s shoulder while he continued to close line him until he knocked the rookie down. Axl countered Dallas’ attempt at another close line and put Bo down to the mat. The two exchanged blows back and forth although Dallas didn’t seemed to be phased by the attack. Bo knocked Keegan down and stalked his prey until Axl got back to his feet and Dallas hit him with a big time spear for the victory for Axl Keegan, ruining his debut. After the match, Dallas said he had lost a few matches recently but he didn’t want another match, he wants a fight. He offered a challenge to anyone in the WWE or NXT to a fight, not a match.

This night of NXT action was full of just that action. Yoshi Tatsu and Corey Graves were set to do battle; Graves throw his jacket at Yoshi, giving Graves some time to attack Yoshi outside before the bell had rung. Graves tossed Tatsu back into the ring and the match had officially started. Yoshi’s knee, clearly bothering him, as he grabbed at it. Corey noticed and immediately attacked the injured Tatsu. Graves backed Tatsu into the corner before out of nowhere Tatsu wrapped Graves up for a near fall. Corey immediately drop kicked the bad leg of Tatsu, Graves looked for his finisher but Yoshi battled back kicking and punching at Graves. Corey blocked the final kick and applied the ‘13th Step’ submission forcing Yoshi to tap out.

Gavin Reid, another new face to NXT making his debut, had the good luck of facing one of the members of The Shield, Roman Reigns. Gavin wanted to make an immediate impression as he tried to attack Reigns. Roman wasn’t fooled or afraid took Reid immediately down. Reigns holding Reid in a side head lock shouted at the crowd, who’s the man? Reigns throw Gavin into the corner, ran toward him and hit a huge closesline. Roman then picked up Reid and hit an aggressive side-walk slam for the win.

Backstage Tyson Kidd was being interviewed. He said if Kruger was another guy he had to go through to be NXT champion, he was going to do it. Kassius Ohno walked in and said Kidd was just like somebody, Richie Steamboat. Ohno said like Steamboat, Tyson is just a kid and Kassius Ohno is the most dangerous man in the world. A video package was show, featuring Jinder Mahal and his match against the NXT Champion Seth Rollins next week for the NXT Title.

Leo Kruger’s music hit and it was time for the main event. Kruger’s opponent was Tyson Kidd as Jim Ross joined William Regal on commentary. Leo didn’t seem impressed by Kidd as he sat in the corner. The bell sounded and Kidd immediately took down Kruger and attempted a submission move, Kruger quickly moved for the bottom rope. Kruger stood up and again Tyson took down Kruger and applied the side head lock, trying to keep the big man down. Leo back to his feet forced Kidd back into the corner and kicked Kidd right in the rib area. Kruger throw Tyson across the ropes but the high-flying Kidd hit Kruger knocking him down. Tyson ran toward the rope attempting another high-flying move but Leo caught him mid-air for a huge spine buster. Kruger holding Tyson down but Kidd tried to separate himself from Kruger. Tyson again went for another flying move but missed him the ropes and fell to the outside. Kruger followed pursuit and throw Tyson back into the ring. Kruger applied the full nelson, attempting to drain what was left in Tyson Kidd tonight. Kidd tried to roll out of the ring, but Kruger hit the baseball slide to help Tyson all the way out and to the mat. Kruger rolled Tyson again back into the ring and went for the cover but Tyson kicked out quickly. Leo ran toward the beaten Tyson but Kidd ducked and hit a spinning kick on Kruger. Trying to gain momentum Tyson knocked Kruger down again and yelled in excitement. Kidd went for a spring-board flip but Kruger’s knees met Tyson as he came down. Kruger hit a running close line and went for another pin, this time a near fall but Kidd managed to kick out. Kruger then was going to take his chance at a high risk maneuver but Kidd fell up the ropes and tossed Leo down. Kruger on the apron was again hit with a flying kick from Tyson. Kidd went for another spring-board flip but Kruger went for another block but Kidd reversed it and hit Kruger with a submission forcing Kruger to tap out. Kassius Ohno ran down the aisle and began attacking Tyson Kidd. Leo joined Ohno on the attack until William Regal left the commentary booth and helped Tyson escape as NXT went off the air.
