Martin’s Tape Delayed Hits: Smackdown 8/30/11

-With the announcement of combined rosters on Raw my one fear is the lesser know but talented wrestlers like Tyson Kidd and Zack Ryder are gonna get lost in the shuffle. Interesting to see if WWE can avoid that.

-Love the USA chant.

-Why don’t they just have a sniper take out Barret. Ludicrous squash.

Editorial – Rebooking Michael McGillicutty

Last Monday night was the end of an era. No more running dropkicks or fist salutes. No more backwards baseball caps or vaguely African rap music for a small town Minnesotan. In other words, no more Michael McGillicutty.

Born and bred the son of wrestling legend “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and the grandson of Larry “The Ax” Hennig, “Michael McGillicutty” or Joe Hennig as I prefer to call him, grew up wanting to be a wrestler and he went about it the right way. Trained by his father and legendary trainers Brad Rheingans and Harley Race, Joe Hennig has the 3rd generation pedigree similar to guys like Randy Orton and the Rock. He impressed people quickly; winning titles in WLW & FCW and was widely considered one of the best prospects in developmental.

So what happened?

Quick Quips: Raw 8/30/11

– Big week in the WWE the next two days with Raw and SmackDown going back to back nights live. My fear is SmackDown is going to feel too much like Raw-lite but we’ll just have to wait and see tomorrow night.

– BTW I will be covering SmackDown live tomorrow night as well. Also, at 6:30 PM EST, I’ll be hosting the Inside Pulse Wrestling Radio show on BlogTalkRadio where we will be taking live callers. You can get more details at http://www.BlogTalkRadio.com/InsidePulseRadio.

– You know I thought HHH was going to have a reduced role…

– Did HHH just combine the roster?

JC’s Top Rope Report #8 – The WWE Fall Fantasy Outlook

The end of August is fast approaching. That means the end of summer. While most people don’t like that, it also means the start of football season. And for someone like me, it also means fantasy football time. I don’t know how many people take part in fantasy football leagues. I’m assuming it’s in the millions. I take part in 4 money leagues myself. It’s addicting. This week of the year is usually when the most fantasy drafts take place. I have two on Sunday myself. Everybody is studying up on players, looking at schedules, and checking on injury statuses before drafting certain players. It’s more work than some people think. You have to put some time into it if you want to succeed and win some money in the end.

Friday Afternoon Newsdump 8/26/11

  • F4WOnline.com is reporting that Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde, also known in Mexico as Mistico, who was the original Sin Cara in WWE, returned as the character at last night’s house show event in Tacoma, Washington. As many of you know, Alvirde was serving a 30 day suspension for his first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy. Alvirde had garnered some backstage heat for speaking out in an interview about the suspension, and claiming that he was unaware that the drugs he had taken were not allowed in WWE.Additionally, there were backstage rumblings that Alvirde would not be brought back as Sin Cara as there were concerns that his ring work was not up to par, coupled with the fact that there was existing heat over the interview and his backstage attitude. It seems as of now, however, that Alvirde will resume the role from here on out, and that FCW talent Hunico, who had been working the character, is finished.

Quick Quips: Raw 8/22/11

– Will WWE finally begin to answer the truckload of questions that surfaced after SummerSlam & last week’s Raw?

– Can Alberto Del Rio rise to the level of the WWE Championship and turn in a more intriguing promo than last week’s?

– No ballyhoo tonight. I guess firing all those executives didn’t save as much money as they thought.

– Wow I’m actually happy Cena’s music just hit. Del Rio really does bore me.
