My Thoughts: WWE RAW 8.4.14 (John Cena, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Kane)

WWE Raw Header - 2014

{1} WOAH! I just realized how little we posted last week besides for the Hulk Hogan & Paul Heyman interviews. I sincerely apologize for that & promise more content this week, including an exclusive interview with former WWE/TNA/ECW star, Justin Credible on Thursday at 8 PM est. You’ll be able to hear it live on our Blog Talk Radio station right here.

{2} As much as I love Roman Reigns’s push and the way it has played out, get Kane off of the active roster. Reigns in a Last Standing Match against almost ANYONE else on the roster and you could have had a main event match but not Kane. And he was so close to reinventing himself as the maskless “Corporate Kane” just a few months ago before they shoved the mask back on him & now his time in the ring is done.

{3} I know I might be in the minority here but I hate the idea of doing a UFC-style video package for John Cena & Brock Lesnar and their match at SummerSlam. Why not show some of their matches BEFORE Lesnar left the WWE for years. Show Lesnar at the top of SmackDown when Cena was doing his best to get noticed. Hell, Cena’s first WWE Championship opportunity was against Lesnar! Show THEIR past together. Everyone knows that Brock Lesnar was a UFC Heavyweight Champion and absolutely everyone knows that John Cena has been the World Champion 15 times. Talk about their parallel OVW & WWE careers instead of focusing on events that DIDN’T EVEN HAPPEN IN YOUR COMPANY!

{4} Did they really just announce that next week will be Hulk Hogan’s “birthday celebration”? On the go-home show of Monday Night RAW before the second biggest PPV of the year, SummerSlam. It happens a lot in the WWE but that really showcased where the company’s priorities lie.

{5} I’m still pretty shocked that Alberto Del Rio has a job & it just bugs me when they put him in the ring with Dean Ambrose. Del Rio never turned out to be the “huge” star many wanted him to be & now is a serviceable heel for matches like this one but Ambrose isn’t going to get over more by beating Del Rio. Even though he is a former WWE and World Champion, I just don’t see Del Rio being a name you remember 5 or 10 years from now.

{6} It’s great that Dolph Ziggler is getting some time on RAW but neither him nor Cesaro get television entrances?! They didn’t even get WWE App entrances! And then the matches lasts all of 4 minutes with Cesaro losing cleanly and quickly. Why does one of these two have to suffer & not both skyrocket to the top?

{7} DID KANE JUST RETIRE FROM IN-RING COMPETITION?! DID MY DREAM FINALLY COME TRUE?! Don’t get me wrong, I loved Kane in his prime, he has had a Hall Of Fame career with some fantastic moments but those moments peaked with Team Hell No. That should have been Kane’s “swan song”. Not after hitting his 20 year mark & having the world have to witness his decline.

{8} Another good match featuring Luke Harper & this time it was against the always great Chris Jericho. I’m beginning to get anxious for Harper’s singles run in the future because his ring style of Bruiser Brody/super agile big man is going to be over huge when he gets a chance to shine.

{9} I thought we might see Seth Rollins lose his Beat The Clock match since Ambrose’s match lasted so very long. Once Heath Slater was introduced (to the “We’re A 3 Man Bannnnnd!” entrance theme, by the way) it became blatantly obvious. Ambrose’s antics outside of the ring were excellent. It was nice to see Dean portray his “unstable” character in a more subtle, rebellious way than the out-of-control man we’ve seen since his debut. This was definitely Ambrose in babyface mode and strangely enough, it reminded me of the antics the late Eddie Guerrero would get up to.

{10} I know I’m not the only one thinking that someone was supposed to come out to help the Bellas but in actuality, who would? Daniel Bryan is home recovering. John Cena isn’t supposed to be in the building and they’ve yet to really show his & Nikki’s relationship on RAW or SmackDown yet. Roman Reigns has to zero in on Randy Orton & Dean Ambrose is probably out buying JBL a new hat. There was no logical Superstar to “make the save” and it was somewhat interesting. Like I said before, I thought someone was supposed to come out but they broke traditional and let the two heels stand over the two fallen women, victorious. Brie Bella and Stephanie McMahon’s match at SummerSlam may not be the best but emotions are going to be running extremely high & hopefully the LA crowd is into this feud as much or more than the past few arenas (and those reactions were already extremely hot. If it wasn’t for the 15 or so video packages, this might have been more than a middle-of-the-road show.
