WHAT I LIKED
Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose: Holy hell Batman. I could watch these two wrestle all day. They just have such great chemistry in the ring. Ambrose is mega over with the crowd. And as I said earlier today, there’s a chance he gets over enough to surpass Reigns in terms of popularity. Ambrose is off to film a movie soon, so this writes him off for a little bit. And it also will set up perfectly for Ambrose to return and fight Rollins inside Hell In A Cell in October. Awesome match.
Paul Heyman Promo: Like you expected this to be somewhere else? That promo effectively did two things. One, it put over Brock Lesnar as Champ. Lesnar just being able to sit there and not have to say a word while Heyman talks him up his great. Second, it actually put over John Cena too. In defeat, Heyman talked about Cena never quitting and understanding why people would admire that. Another reason why Heyman is so great.
Big Show/Mark Henry vs Erik Rowan and Luke Harper: Surprisingly decent match considering the parties involved. I’m okay with the pairing of Big Show and Mark Henry. I haven’t been interested in Big Show’s work in about five years but am willing to give him a shot in this new tag team. But the action here was okay and I didn’t find myself not liking any of it.
Mark Henry/Rusev: And then Henry had to go and do that. So he’s in a tag team and defending America? I’m okay with that. I’ve always had a soft spot for Mark Henry. I loved his run in 2011 when he won the World Title. And Henry isn’t terrible in the ring. I thought for sure Rusev’s next opponent would be Sheamus. But I’m okay with Henry. I liked his promo and hope these two can put on a decent big man match down the line.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
Opening Segment: If you read my SummerSlam thoughts earlier, you know I wasn’t a big fan of the Bella break-up angle. I said they would need to do a lot to keep me interested in it. Well they failed big time this week. Nikki was just awful in every way. She couldn’t act, she did a terrible job expressing her emotions and basically everything else you could think of. The segment was doomed from the start with Nikki losing her shoe and her mic not working. Just a bad segment of an angle that should have ended at SummerSlam.
The Usos vs Goldust and Stardust: The match was just weird. First of all it was pretty short. Second of all there were about twenty different armdrags/armbars in the match. Then the match ends with a quick Stardust roll up. I get Champs lose on TV to set up Title matches, but that match just made no sense to me. Everything about it was off.
Miz vs Dolph Ziggler: Again, I have more of a problem with the setup of this match more than anything. There’s two minutes of action, then a commercial, then the match is over three minutes back from break. Why bother trying to make it a big deal if that is all the action that is going to happen?
Nothing new really happened on this show. We don’t really know what the situation is with Brock Lesnar going forward. Ambrose and Rollins put on a great match. There were a couple of other good matches on the show as well. There was also some weird matches and that terrible segment to start the show. Ambrose vs Rollins did enough to raise this ranking above average, so I’m giving RAW a 6.
