JC’s Top Rope Report: The RAW Truth Review For 3.2.15
Due to a personal matter, I missed the beginning of RAW. All I saw was Roman Reigns taking out J&J Security and Seth Rollins. I’ll update it later in the review.
This Is The Most Action the IC Title Has Seen In Months
Dean Ambrose vs Bad News Barrett. Ambrose landed some kicks in the corner but Barrett caught Ambrose off guard and landed some of his own. Ambrose came back with some Flair chops. Ambrose hit an elbow in the corner then followed it with a bulldog. Ambrose went to the top but Barrett crotched him. Barrett put Ambrose in the ropes then connected with a big boot. Barrett posed with the IC Title into commercial.
Back from break Barrett had a headlock applied. Ambrose got out with a headbutt but Barrett came back with an elbow that sent Ambrose to the outside. Barrett taunted R-Truth on the outside then smacked Truth. Barrett turned around and walked right into a dive from Ambrose. They went back in the ring but Ambrose tossed Barrett back to the outside and hit an elbow. R-Truth then stole the IC Title, but Luke Harper was now standing over him. Truth gave Harper the Title. Barrett hit the Winds of Change for two. Barrett yelled at Harper from inside the ring, but turned around and walked right into Dirty Deeds to give Ambrose the win.
WINNER: Dean Ambrose
The Miz debuted his new commercial backstage, but he didn’t know it was for an erectile dysfunction pill called “Niagara.” Miz blamed Mizdow, called him an ungrateful nobody then slapped him. Miz said Mizdow’s nothing without him and won’t be in the WWE if he isn’t with him. Miz asked Mizdow what he had to say, and Mizdow said sorry.
Bray Wyatt came out with a casket. He wondered what was truly left of The Undertaker. He begged The Undertaker to come out. He said he built the casket just for The Undertaker. Bray said Taker is mocking him with all this silence and everything comes with a price. Bray grabbed a gasoline canister and said fire always has a way of putting things out from the past. Bray said no one can hide from him and he will burn at Wrestlemania. Bray set the casket on fire.
These Six Could Have This Match In Their Sleep
Tyson Kidd, Cesaro and Natalya vs The Usos and Naomi. Cesaro hit a knee to the face on Jey. Jey reversed Cesaro and hit a Samoan Drop. Jey tagged Naomi then hit a dive to the outside on Cesaro. Naomi hit a kick to the gut then leapfrogged Natalya. Natty sold her leg injury from last week. She tagged Tyson Kidd and Jimmy came in. Jimmy dominated then tagged Jey and they went for a double super kick, but Kidd tagged in Natalya. She asked Kidd why he would do that, allowing Naomi to roll up Natalya to pick up the win.
WINNERS: The Usos and Naomi
Natalya and Tyson Kidd argued after, which lead to Natalya crying and her and Kidd hugging.
AXELMANIA RUNNING WILD
John Cena came out. He said this is an occasion where people not in his corner are having a wonderful time because Rusev beat him at Fastlane. And when Cena asked for a rematch he said no. Cena said he is not going to whine and complain, he is going to adapt and change and get back up because when you get knocked off the mountain you get back up and climb. Cena said he is officially putting himself in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.
Stephanie McMahon came out. She said no one just declares for a match in the WWE, but Cena rattled off everyone that did. Steph said Andre the Giant was her friend and she didn’t like Cena disparaging his name by entering the Battle Royal. Steph said he can’t be in the Battle Royal. Cena said that Steph wasn’t the bitch in the picture with Andre the Giant that she is now. Cena said he thought being a 15 time Champion would get him in. Steph said he hasn’t been the best of friends with the Authority and if he can’t get the job done with Rusev then maybe they should find someone who can. Cena said the day he is left out of Wrestlemania is the day, but Steph interrupted with OR WHAT??? Steph said the WWE can survive without Cena just like they did without Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. She said it’s about what John Cena would be without the WWE. She said Wrestlemania will go on without him.
Curtis Axel came out. He proclaimed himself the greatest competitor in Royal Rumble history. He said he is the axe man and he could get the job done against Rusev. And even though he is in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, two wins at Wrestlemania is better than one. Steph said Cena has to wrestle Axel now, and the only way he gets a match at Wrestlemania is if he beats Axel. Cena was serious and said he was giving Axel once chance to leave, because if this match starts Axel won’t walk out of the ring.
Back from break Axel did the Hogan ear pose. He then did the Hogan poses. Cena came right at him with a clothesline. Axel tried to “Axel Up,” but Cena knocked him down and hit an AA, followed by the STF. Axel tapped.
WINNER: John Cena
Rusev and Lana came out. Rusev said only he still hasn’t changed his mind, and he will not face Cena at Mania.
It’s Wrestlemania 19 All Over Again!
Triple H came out. He said in 1995 he told Vince McMahon that all he wanted was an opportunity. He’s made the most of it. He said at Fastlane he promised to make Sting bigger than he ever was. But he squandered that opportunity for a chance at Wrestlemania. He said Sting chose to do it with the wrong guy. He said he will make it seem like that Sting’s career never existed. HHH said everyone has their theories and he invited Booker T in the ring to give his. HHH said he heard what Booker said earlier, that he said HHH stopped him from coming here. Booker said he know HHH would use his power to do something like that. HHH said he thought Booker was better than that, better than the kids on the Internet who think they know the ins and outs of this industry. Booker said no one can control Sting, and now Triple H has to deal with it at Wrestlemania. HHH said maybe Sting was scared and just didn’t want to come here. HHH thanked Booker for his opinion, and then said he was fired. Booker grabbed his stuff and started to walk away. HHH stopped him and said that he isn’t fired. That was just a lesson in control. He said he has it. And he has the ability to end the last piece of WCW. And he will take advantage of that opportunity and put an end to Sting.
Oh Good, The Return Of CM Punk Chants
Paige vs Nikki for the Divas Title. Nikki took Paige down with a shoulder tackle but Paige came back with a leg sweep. She went for the PTO but Nikki got to the ropes. Nikki had control back from break. Paige fought out with an elbow but Nikki caught her and hit a spinebuster for two. Paige caught Nikki with a kick but they clotheslined each other. Paige hit a couple of clotheslines then a dropkick for two. She went for the PTO again but Brie got on the ropes. Paige kicked Brie off. Paige ducked a Nikki clothesline and hit a kick. Paige applied the PTO but Brie broke it up, causing the DQ.
WINNER via DQ: Paige
The Bellas attacked after the match, only for AJ to make the save. AJ took out both Bellas until Nikki took out AJ from behind. Paige came too and helped AJ clear the ring of both Bellas.
Celebrites That Know The Product? Cool
Seth Rollins came out to host his own Daily Show segment. They replayed what happened on the actual Daily Show. He said he is here to show he can do Jon Stewart’s job better than he could. He said just like the audience when he hosted the Oscars last year, Stewart has been dead silent since. Rollins said Stewart hasn’t shown up, just like no one showed up to the movie he directed last year. He said if Stewart showed up last night, he would force him to retire immediately.
Jon Stewart came out. He said Rollins didn’t earn this. He said Rollins is out here proving he can’t read. Stewart said he couldn’t make a fool out of anyone dressed as a male swat team stripper member. Stewart said the Curb Stomp is how they greet each other in Jersey in the morning. He said he remembers the wrestlers that earned it, like Bruno Sammartino and Gorilla Monsoon. He said Rollins thought he could take a short cut by joining the Authority. Stewart said eventually they get taken down. Stewart said he has respect, and the Authority doesn’t care about him. He asked Rollins who was fighting for the Title at Wrestlemania. He said sure Rollins is better on the mic and in the ring but its Reigns vs Lesnar. Stewart said Rollins didn’t earn his briefcase either. Rollins stood up and started threatening Stewart. Randy Orton’s music played and he walked down the ramp. Stewart then kicked Rollins low and ran off. Orton walked back up the ramp.
Oh Yeah Here’s Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan vs Luke Harper. Harper caught Bryan right off the bell with a boot to the face. Bryan came back and dropkicked Harper in the corner. Harper caught him during the second try and tossed Bryan to the outside. Back from break Bryan landed some kicks. He went to leap frog Harper but Harper tossed him into the turnbuckle, then Harper hit a German suplex. Harper went for a powerbomb but Bryan countered into a roll up. Harper came right back with a superkick. Harper went for the Gator roll but Bryan countered into the YES Lock for the win. The ending came kind of quick and out of nowhere.
WINNER: Daniel Bryan
Barrett came out after the match to take his Title back. Ambrose came out and clotheslined Barrett but ate a boot from Harper. Truth took the Title. Harper stopped him then took out Truth. Ziggler then super kicked Harper and posed with the Title on the ladder. Bryan did the YES chant on the announce table.
Alundra Blayze was announced as the latest Hall of Fame inductee.
Backstage Orton told Rollins he saved him from committing career suicide by touching Jon Stewart. He offered his help in his match against Reigns. Kane and Big Show said they had his back.
Heyman Doing His Best Sell Job
Paul Heyman came out. He said he was here to put an end to the rumors. He said Brock Lesnar will be at Wrestlemania and he will be anywhere he damn well pleases before and after Wrestlemania. And he will be WWE World Heavyweight Champion then. He said we all bought into the fantasy of Daniel Bryan at Fastlane and that didn’t work. And now everyone believes in Roman Reigns. They bought the confetti and fireworks for his win already. He reinforced what he said last week. He said at Wrestlemania Lesnar either destroys Reigns all up and down the arena, or he Ronda Rousey’s his ass. Heyman said at Wrestlemania, Lesnar is going to conquer Reigns and everyone should believe dat.
Oh NOW They Try To Book Roman Reigns Right
Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns. Reigns took Rollins down with a shoulder tackle. Rollins regrouped and hit another shoulder tackle and followed it with an atomic drop. Reigns continued to dominate until Rollins caught him with a dropkick. Rollins tossed Reigns to the outside where J & J tried to interfere, but Reigns took them out. Reigns then connected on a right hand to Rollins. Randy Orton made his way to the ring going to commercial.
Back from break Rollins had a headlock applied. Reigns fought out with a backdrop. Reigns hit some clotheslines in the corner then a tilt-a-whirl slam. He went for the Superman Punch but Joey Mercury grabbed his leg. Reigns tossed him to the outside, then Rollins caught him with an enziguri kick. Rollins went to the top but Reigns caught him with a right hand. Reigns body dropped him off the top. He took out Noble on the outside but the distraction allowed Rollins to land a kick to the face for two. Rollins went to the top but Reigns moved and lifted him from the ground to hit a sit down powerbomb. Both men exchanged punches until Reigns dumped Rollins to the outside. Reigns took out Big Show with a clothesline but Kane caught him with a chair shot to the gut. Rollins only got a two back in the ring. Rollins went for the Curb Stomp but Reigns moved and hit a Superman Punch. Reigns readied for the Spear but Orton grabbed Reigns leg. Rollins rolled up Reigns to score the pinfall win.
WINNER: Seth Rollins
After the match, Reigns dove over the ropes onto every member of the Authority. Reigns then Superman Punched and Speared Big Show. He then caught Rollins jumping off the top rope with a Spear.
The show had its ups and downs. It only took them two months to figure out how to book Reigns. Him wrecking people at the end is what should have been happening since Day One. Of course, the WWE is still doing weird things with this entire Randy Orton/Authority angle. The Jon Stewart stuff was done well. Axelmania continues to be great. But Bray Wyatt continues to cut the same promo every week. And we also got barely any wrestling on the show. The Divas match was good for the time it was given. And of course Heyman was great on the mic. I’m inclined to give the show a 5. There were some ups and downs, but not enough to make it feel like it was a big show leading into Wrestlemania.
