We are just under a year away from Wrestlemania 32. I’ve actually already booked a hotel room for next year’s Mania in Dallas. Hey, it’s completely refundable and my card doesn’t get charged until I check in. And with rates still currently cheap, why the heck not? But I have a warning for you wrestling fans: I don’t have a track record of going to very good Wrestlemanias. I’ve been to 2: WM27 & WM29. So yeah, things may not be looking good for next year’s Mania with that history.
As most of you know by now I like to give Wrestlemania predictions throughout the year. My first guesses come out after Wrestlemania, followed by SummerSlam then in the late months of the year. What were my predictions for Wrestlemania 31 after Wrestlemania 30 last year? Lets take a look:
-Andre the Giant Battle Royal
-Divas Championship: Paige (c) vs Emma
-Intercontinental Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs Sami Zayn
-Randy Orton, Batista, Sheamus vs The Undertaker, Sting, Kane
-Bray Wyatt vs Triple H
-Brock Lesnar vs Cesaro
-Daniel Bryan vs CM Punk
-The Rock vs Dean Ambrose
-WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs Roman Reigns
And that was a swing and a miss. I guess I at least got Roman Reigns in the Title match right. But we all had high hopes for Cesaro coming out of last year’s Mania. The same could be said for Dean Ambrose. And it looks like that CM Punk return didn’t work out like I thought it would.
So, lets get into my way too early predictions for Wrestlemania 32 that are bound not to happen!
-I’m guessing we get the same kind of pre-show as we did this year, with the Andre the Giant Battle Royal and Tag Titles being defended.
Divas Championship: Paige (c) vs Emma vs Charlotte vs Sasha Banks
-I’m not ready to give up on Emma just yet. I’m hoping this heel run she is going to have on NXT helps her out and gives her a new push and more time on the main roster. Paige isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. And it’s guaranteed Banks and Charlotte will be on the main roster by the end of the year. I could see the WWE trying to re-create the magic of the NXT Fatal 4 Way with these Divas involved. And there’s no reason it shouldn’t work.
Intercontinental Championship: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Sami Zayn
-Bray Wyatt is entering dangerous territory as a character. The fans still seem to be behind him, but how much longer that lasts remains to be seen. Wyatt’s uniqueness is what keeps the fans interested. But he continues to come up short in big programs, and his character still lacks any meaning to me. He’s still calling himself the new face of fear, even though he lost to The Undertaker at WM31. I almost thought of re-uniting the Wyatt Family to face Sting/Undertaker/Kane, but I don’t know if Bray will have that much heat still going into next year. So instead, I put Bray with Zayn here. It’d be a big win for Zayn at Mania and a good start to his career.
Daniel Bryan vs Rusev
-This is simply a “Find A Way To Get Both Guys On The Show” match. I’m a fan of both of these guys. If you listen to the Wrestling Radio Show, you know I’m a bigger fan of Rusev than most. I think the guy could be a solid main eventer if given the opportunity. But I just couldn’t find a better spot for him on the card. Same with Bryan. As much as the fans love him, I just don’t see him being a Wrestlemania Main Eventer again, unless certain things fall into place. I think by next year Rusev will tone down the anti-America gimmick and turn more into a kick ass big man. This is a match that could easily be set up during the Rumble match.
John Cena vs Kevin Owens
-Cena has been used as a gatekeeper at Wrestlemania for the last two years. He feuded with Bray Wyatt and Rusev to try and elevate them in the eyes of fans. The results for Wyatt have been sketchy at best and we don’t know what the future holds for Rusev. So who could Cena feud with next Wrestlemania? The options are limited on the current roster. That’s why I am going down to NXT and bringing up Kevin Owens. You have to believe the WWE has faith in Owens since they put the NXT Title on him in his first two months. Owens/Cena could follow the script of Zayn/Owens from NXT: Owens is now in the WWE and is looking for a way to make an impact with his debut.
Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton
-Lesnar deserves to be in a big match on the show. But he’s already fought a lot of people high up on the card, and will probably fight more of them between now and Wrestlemania. So where does that leave Lesnar? I’m putting him against Randy Orton. I’m assuming we are getting Lesnar/Rollins at SummerSlam. Hell, you can even have Lesnar win the Title at some point between now and WM32. But me personally, and this is coming from someone who loves the work Lesnar has done recently, I wouldn’t have him in the Title match for a second year in a row. Orton is a face now, but he can easily turn heel again by costing Lesnar the Title or a shot at the Title.
The Rock w/Ronda Rousey vs Triple H w/Stephanie McMahon
-This one seems like the most obvious match to happen given what took place at WM31. I know that the WWE really wants Rousey to work a match with Stephanie McMahon. But I just don’t think the UFC will allow her to work an actual match. I could see her taking part in some shenanigans on the outside and probably applying an armbar to Stephanie McMahon. But I don’t think she wrestles in the ring. And I know the WWE seems to be having more of a relationship with ESPN/UFC, but I just don’t see it. I’d much rather see Rock/HHH then Rock/Brock. There’s more of a backstory and Brock is now a full fledged babyface, so a match with Rock just doesn’t work.
The Undertaker vs Sting
-The last hooray for both men. It’s a match that has been talked about for years. And I think it finally happens next year. The WWE even teased it again with their “8 Predictions for WM32” column they posted a few days ago. Both men appeared to be in very good shape at WM31. We know they will be able to get into shape next year. The spectacle of these two facing each other will be half the show. If both men can even put on a half decent match, then everything will have come together perfectly.
WWE Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose
-Normally, I’m against triple threat matches headlining a Wrestlemania card. However, this might be the biggest match the WWE can do with their current crop of stars that could headline the show. It is a match a lot of people thought might happen this year. But if they wait until WM32, the WWE can rehab the characters of Reigns and Ambrose going into the biggest show of the year. I think Reigns will end up winning the Title at some point in 2015. After Rollins goes through his feud with Lesnar, I could see Reigns either winning the MITB briefcase or just straight up beating Rollins in a singles match for the Title. As far as Ambrose? The guy is still over despite being booked like crap over the last few months. If the WWE gets behind him, he could win the Rumble next year. And Rollins could easily be put in the match by the Authority. It’s a match that should happen at a major PPV, and there’s no better place than WM32.
So what do you think Wrestlemania will look like in a year? Feel free to leave your thoughts here!
