King Barrett vs R-Truth

Justin “JC” Czerwonka: Honestly, who really cares anymore? They’ve traded wins back and forth for what seems like forever now. The smart thing to do would be to put Barrett over here but in the end the winner won’t mean much.

Matt “The Top Draw” Harrak: How to put this more nicely than JC…? Who f**king cares anymore? Winning the King of the Ring & then feuding with R-Truth could be a metaphor for Wade Barrett’s entire career. We’ve been talking about Barrett’s “upside” for 5 years now and every single time it looks as if he’s receiving a push (the KotR win), he’s knocked back down with the follow-up (R-Truth). People stopped really caring about Barrett a long time ago and nothing these two do tonight will make much of a difference.

WINNER: King Barrett

The New Day vs The Prime Time Players for the WWE World Tag Team Championship

JC: I honestly think there was a transition plan in place for the tag division. It seemed like that after the Prime Time Players won, it looked like Luke Harper and Erick Rowan would be the next champs, then there would be a possible feud with the Dudley Boyz. But Rowan got hurt and those potential plans went nowhere. The New Day seems bigger than the Tag Titles at this point but they can also do more to elevate them. I’m picking the New Day to win here.

Draw: Unless we’re on the verge of John Cena or Randy Orton tackling the tag team division (as I suggested on The Wrestling Radio Show), I don’t see a reason why you would take the belts off of the Prime Time Players. That being said, the Players have done nothing to make themselves relevant on WWE TV which means the belts will probably flip-flop back to The New Day.

WINNERS: The New Day

Randy Orton vs Sheamus

JC: It’s a good thing this match is taking place in Orton’s hometown, otherwise it could receive some backlash from fans in attendance. Orton and Sheamus have no chemistry in the ring together. Who needs the win more? Orton is directionless while Sheamus still has the MITB contract. I’m picking Orton to win here because he’s been stagnant the last month or so and a win would help.

Draw: The entire reason this match is taking place is because neither of these two men have a purpose. Orton is back from vacation & Sheamus is holding steady until he cashes in his new luggage. Who wins? Does it really matter?

WINNER: JC – Randy Orton / Draw – Sheamus

Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt

JC: All of these Battleground matches could be considered toss-ups. This is another one where I could see both men winning. Wyatt has always been a “jobber to the stars” and a win here against Reigns would help his stock. Reigns, of course, is the WWE’s golden boy and obviously the WWE wants to keep him strong. Up until recently, I honestly thought these two would feud into SummerSlam. But I think that is changing. I’m picking Bray Wyatt to win here in a physical battle.

Draw: Here is when things finally begin to get interesting. Wyatt, on one hand, desperately needs a big win and considering my prediction for SummerSlam… there’s no way he should lose. Reigns, on the other hand, needs the “W” to justify my prediction for him at SummerSlam. That only leaves me with one option… a no contest.

WINNER: JC – Bray Wyatt / Draw – No Contest

Kevin Owens vs John Cena for the WWE United States Championship

JC: This is sure to be another classic battle between these two. I thought Cesaro would get added to make it a Triple Threat. And then I even thought they could add Cesaro AND Rusev and make this a Fatal 4 Way. If the WWE didn’t do that Elimination Chamber Special on the Network, I would have loved to see a Chamber match with Cena/Owens/Cesaro/Rusev/Ziggler/Whoever at SummerSlam. I think this whole program is extending to SummerSlam. What happens? I see Owens about to pick up the win, only for Cesaro to come out and cause a DQ. That way you can do a Triple Threat at SummerSlam.

Draw: As interesting and different and exciting this feud has been, it’s been a classic case of wrestling storytelling 101. The brash upstart upsets the veteran fan favorite – the good guy even the odds – the bad guy convinces the babyface to put the title on the line. And now the “rookie” unseats the champion. Kevin Owens is going over here and setting up a gimmick match at SummerSlam with Cena.

WINNER: JC – Kevin Owens via DQ / Draw: Kevin Owens is the new United States Champion

Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

JC: There are so many outcomes that could happen in this match. It would be tough to see the top two matches end with some kind of interference, but I think that happens here. So who interferes? We know the Authority is on the shelf. So who helps Rollins retain? I’m going with Roman Reigns. Reigns doesn’t even have to do it and join Rollins. He could take out Lesnar and say that he’s there to topple the Beast and show that he is the true monster in the WWE. Rollins retains. But while he’s celebrating, the lights go out, and Undertaker appears and chokeslams Rollins.

Draw: So here’s my issue: Seth Rollins will walk away with the WWE Championship but I’m not completely sure how. Sure, he can try to play the Chris Jericho card and get Lesnar to DQ himself. Or he could just run away. Or he could just get himself DQ! There’s a lot of ways to get it done, I just don’t know the route they’re going to take.

WINNER: Seth Rollins
