JC’s Top Rope Report: My In Person ROH/WWE RAW Thoughts

JC Top Rope Logo 2

Being the long time wrestling fan that I am, I like to go to as many wrestling shows as possible. It is one of the few things I spend money on. Sometimes, I wonder why I still do it when I see the product. But I enjoy going to shows and try to make them fun whether they are good or bad.

So this weekend I had the opportunity to attend a Ring of Honor house show on Saturday, and followed it up with RAW on Monday. To say that the two shows were quite different would be an understatement.

WWE NXT Review For 9.23.15 (w/JSP)

NXT Logo - 2012

Hey everyone, please welcome Jake St-Pierre to the HTC Writing Staff! He will be reviewing NXT every week.

I feel like starting the show off with a guaranteed dumpster fire like Carmella vs. Eva Marie probably isn’t a sound idea. I’m not as harsh on Eva Marie as most, but still. Sure she’s terrible at pretty much everything but I think she’s at least doing a good job adjusting to the crowd’s upheaval at her mere existence. And it always gives me solace when a girl – no matter how talentless – can at least run the ropes better than Kelly Kelly. Baby steps, guys. Carmella is cancer without Enzo and Cass though, and every time I hear that Iggy Azalea ripoff entrance music, it makes me wish Scott Stapp and Fred Durst went on a cocaine binge in the studio and shit out something better. The match sucks, by the way. Eva is getting there charisma-wise but man alive does she SUCK in the ring. Carmella isn’t that much better than her either. Making light of the infamous KICK OUT!~! is clever, though and at least it distracts from the wrestling and whoever decided to let these two even go 5 minutes. I guess you have to take in what you can, so good on NXT for at least trying to make 9 year old chicken salad out of fermented chicken shit.

Positively Pro-Wrestling: Seth’s On Top, Women Are Wrestling & NXT Is N-X-T!

Positively Pro-Wrestling Logo

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to sit down and put some positivity down on virtual paper. But believe me when I say that is NOT because of the lack of positive action in the world of pro-wrestling. Now I don’t delude myself in thinking everything is all sunshine and rainbows but there truly is a lot to be excited about in wrestling today. As the leaves begin turn and the weather gets colder, let’s take a look at a few things to be excited for during the fall season.

JC’s Top Rope Report: Random RAW Thoughts For 9.21.15

JC Top Rope Logo 2

-I’m glad to see that the WWE is FINALLY breaking up the team thing when it comes to the Divas. You could tell by Paige’s reactions that she was getting frustrated by Charlotte getting the attention in recent weeks. I thought her promo was good. There were obviously some behind the scenes jabs thrown in as well. I could see Paige turning into the “Lone Wolf” of the women’s division. Nice storyline development here.

Stardust and The Ascension Defeat Neville and Lucha Dragons

-It seems like they are just extending this program until we get another Stardust/Amell match. Maybe they try to keep it going until Survivor Series and do an 8 man elimination tag.

Kevin Owens Defeats Ryback to Win the Intercontinental Title

-Smart move by the WWE to put the IC Title on Owens here. Despite Ryback continuing to be over (which is still a surprise to me), he really wasn’t going anywhere or doing anything of worth with the IC Title. Hopefully Owens can turn into the fighting Champion that the WWE wanted Daniel Bryan to be when he won the Title. Good match psychology to with Owens working the arm all match and using smart ring positioning to pick up the win.
