JC’s Top Rope Report: Wrestlemania 32 Predicitons, Take 2!

JC Top Rope Logo 2

Usually I try to do my second set of Wrestlemania predictions after SummerSlam, but that was delayed for a bit. I’m here to bring you Round 2 of these predictions. Lets look at what I predicted back in April:

Divas Championship: Paige (c) vs Emma vs Charlotte vs Sasha Banks

Intercontinental Championship: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Sami Zayn

Daniel Bryan vs Rusev

John Cena vs Kevin Owens

Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton

The Rock w/Ronda Rousey vs Triple H w/Stephanie McMahon

The Undertaker vs Sting

WWE Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

Hey, I got John Cena vs Kevin Owens right! Okay maybe it was about 9 months too early but I’m still taking credit for it damn it! With Ronda Rousey officially ruling out a Wrestlemania appearance, that match may be off the table. Or is it? Does Rousey really have to be involved in the match for it to happen? And with Sting’s recent injury I would say him wrestling at Wrestlemania would be in doubt.

So what do I think Wrestlemania will look like now? Here you go:

Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Sami Zayn

-I think Kevin Owens is going to take the place the WWE had in mind for Daniel Bryan: a hard working, long term IC Champ that tries to bring respectability back to the Title. There is no reason to think that Owens can’t be the one to do it. So if you want to have a long term Champ, you need to have someone with a good backstory to take the Title off him at the end. And that is where Sami Zayn comes in. The story is already there. Owens put Zayn on the shelf, and they can go back to their NXT and Indie history. Have Zayn return in the Royal Rumble and take out Owens. And the story goes from there. It makes almost too much sense for this to happen.

The Wyatt Family vs The New Day

-If, and as always when it comes to the WWE it’s a big if, the WWE does not screw up the New Day, they could be huge come Wrestlemania time. Now I don’t want them to turn face, but I could see the WWE trying to do something like turn them face. Either way I still think they will be a popular act, and they will deserve a match at Wrestlemania. The Wyatt’s make sense from a match-up standpoint. Two completely different acts going against each other. I think it will be a fun match-up and an interesting combination of characters.

Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) vs Sasha Banks

-It is going to be REALLY tough to keep the Title off of Sasha until Wrestlemania. But just imagine the reaction she would get if she won the Title at the biggest event of the year. The crowd would go nuts for it. I could see a situation where the Title goes to Paige or back to Nikki before Charlotte retains it. Sasha could break away from Naomi and Tamina. Maybe even give Sasha a Title match around TLC/Rumble time and have her lose, but fight her way back to a rematch at Mania. I think this would be a Sasha face turn, and Charlotte could be the heel playing the entitled daughter of a legend. The pieces would all fit.

Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton

-My mind keeps going back to this match for some reason. He’s obviously not going back to The Undertaker again. John Cena isn’t happening. Maybe we get a Roman Reigns rematch, but if it isn’t for the Title it doesn’t feel as big. The Rock is always the hot rumor, but I see him doing something else. That brings me to Randy Orton. It is a match that has not been done in the WWE at all yet. Now you would have to build Orton up during the next few months, but it is something that could be done. Maybe you could do a Reigns/Lesnar Title match at the Rumble and have Orton cost him the Title there. There are various ways the WWE could get here, they just can’t be lazy in doing it.

The Rock vs Triple H

-No, this match won’t have Ronda Rousey attached to it like many had hoped. Her and The Rock together would have been a HUGE box office attraction for the WWE. But she will be filming a movie during Wrestlemania time this year. But that doesn’t mean this match still can’t happen. While everyone remembers the big matches The Rock and Steve Austin had at Wrestlemania, The Rock and Triple H had more of a long term rivalry. They were always on opposite ends of feuds: Rocky Maivia vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley, N.O.D. Rock vs D-X Triple H, Corporate HHH vs Fan Favorite The Rock. They have more history. I know Rock/Brock might be the bigger draw, but this match works just as well. Plus it is a safer match for The Rock to work.

The Undertaker vs John Cena

-It’s the last big Wrestlemania match that I want to see The Undertaker in. Sting was on the list, but after seeing him get injured at Night of Champions I don’t think it happens. On the Wrestling Radio Show, we threw out the idea of it being The Rock, but I don’t think that is on the WWE’s radar. This match would have meant more if The Streak was on the line. But you have two legends of the WWE going one-on-one. Add a retirement stipulation, or have Taker say he wants to fight the top dog in the WWE and reverse the roles from HBK/Taker at Wrestlemania 26. Cena turns Taker down until Cena finally gives in. Outside of Cena, the only other realistic option to me would be Seth Rollins.

WWE Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

-Some people, like my counterpart Matt Harrak, don’t think this match will happen. I’m standing by the idea that it will. Sheamus cashes in MITB and wins the WWE Title. Rollins moves into a feud with HHH at the end of 2015. Reigns takes the Title off of Sheamus. Ambrose wins the Rumble and Rollins weasels his way into the match, making it a Triple Threat. It allows the top 3 young stars in the company to showcase their talents. It brings together all of the former Shield members in a big match. And it is bound to get some big time attention still with the Title in the picture. Who wins? I think you could make a case for all three. I’d pick Ambrose to give him the Title and bring together a year when all three former Shield members win the WWE Title.

A Couple of Notes:

-I’m not putting Steve Austin in a match until I hear more than just rumors about it. As much as I would love to see one more match, I don’t think it happens. I’d put the odds at about 25% right now. And I think that is high.

-After what happened at Night of Champions, I don’t think Sting wrestles this year. I could see him getting a Hall of Fame induction and maybe taking someone out at Wrestlemania in the ring, but not an actual match. And I think Sting is okay with that.

-The pre-show? Throw the Andre the Giant Battle Royal and the Tag Titles on there again.

-If I was a betting man I would think the Bellas end up on the card somehow. Who do they fight? How about uniting with a heel Paige to take on Trish Stratus, Lita and Mickie James?

So what do you think Wrestlemania will look like?
