The HTC Staff Predicts WWE TLC

TLC Predictions

TLC - Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger

Chairs Match For The United States Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger

Top Draw: Here you have the bathroom-break match of the night. There’s nothing like a good anti-American gimmick to justify blowing the dust off Jack Swagger & getting him back on TV. Swagger has to be counting his blessings that Sargent Slaughter can’t compete any longer or Jack would have been on the chopping block years ago. I said it on The Wrestling Radio Show and I’ll say it here, I understand why WWE decided to rehire Alberto Del Rio but it was a bad move. Despite numerous opportunities, Del Rio was never truly over during his first run and since he’s returned, he’s fallen right back into his mediocrity within a month. Yet despite his lackluster title reign, Del Rio is not dropping the belt to mister “Thank-GOD-I-still-have-a-job”.

WINNER: Alberto Del Rio

JC: Show of hands, who thought Jack Swagger was released before this feud started? I bet at least 25% reading this thought so. Does anyone really think Jack Swagger is winning here? Sure, Del Rio has been awful since his return. But he’s not dropping the Title to Swagger here. I’d expect Cena to return soon for his rematch.

WINNER: Alberto Del Rio

JSP: I literally could not care less about this match. Del Rio’s comeback was dead in the water the second night in and Jack Swagger has been the jobbiest jobber that ever jobbed since he got killed by Rusev. Del Rio retains until John Cena comes back and hopefully takes it back.

WINNER: Alberto Del Rio

TLC - The Wyatt Family vs. The Dudley

Elimination Tables Match: The Wyatt Family vs The Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno

Top Draw: The return of the JOB Squad is exactly what The Wyatt Family needs right now. The return of the Dudleyz has been disappointing to say the least and this ECW reunion seems to be a last resort of sorts. A pairing with Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno almost 15 years after ECW closed? Very topical. The Wyatts (well, Bray and Harper at least) are better than this feud but they need a win more than a meaningful feud right now. Wyatt is my dark horse to win the Royal Rumble and his recent interaction with Roman Reigns is just strengthening my belief. But he’s got to win a match first and this one seems to be a given.

WINNER: The Wyatt Family

JC: Well, they have to rehab the Wyatt Family somehow. And I guess this is the best way to do it. I’m never a big fan of bringing back the memory of ECW. But I can live with it here. As long as it is only for one month and nothing longer. The Wyatts should get the win here and I guess it might help them? I mean until they have to be hyped up for a big match again where they will just lose.

WINNERS: The Wyatt Family

JSP: It’s a sad sign of the times when this match is what I’m looking forward to most after the ladder match. It’s been kind of fun seeing the ECW guys back, but The Dudleyz have gone completely stale after the New Day feud and I have no idea where they go after this. That being said, I have good faith they’ll put together a decent spotfest since at least four dudes are going through tables. If WWE has any sanity left, The Wyatts win and win forcefully. So I’ll be optimistic and say that The Wyatts win.

WINNERS: The Wyatt Family

TLC - Divas Champion Charlotte vs

Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) w/Ric Flair vs Paige

Top Draw: Soooo Paige is a bad “guy” for wanting the Divas title and Charlotte is a bad “guy” for winning at any costs. Who are we supposed to be rooting for here? The better wrestler? NXT vs WWE? Who’s hotter? Come on, these two could probably still the show if given something solid to work with but when you have a story that can’t define its hero, its performers are going to have a hard time telling that story.

WINNER: Charlotte

JC: So who is the heel here? Are they both heels? I think Becky Lynch is the face, but the WWE doesn’t really know for sure. Paige slapping Ric Flair should have been done about a month ago to get her some heat before the Survivor Series match. Hopefully these two put on a little better match than they did at TLC. I can see Becky getting involved in the finish. I’m still of the mindset that Sasha is winning the Title from Charlotte at Wrestlemania. Becky helps Charlotte retain the Title here, and I see a Triple Threat on the horizon soon.

WINNER: Charlotte

JSP: I’m back and forth about the booking of this feud since Survivor Series. I do like the shades of grey thing they’re trying to do with Charlotte, but at the same time it feels clunky with WWE not sure of the story they’re trying to tell. As such, Paige feels like somewhat of an afterthought. They’ve used most of the time to put Becky Lynch in the babyface slot, while letting Paige watch on as she tells us how right she was. And she WAS right! So why are we supposed to hate Paige here? She told us Charlotte’s a cunt, Charlotte turned out to be a cunt, but Paige’s still the baddie? Whatever. So I don’t know what to think here. I thought their Survivor Series match was a snoozer, but maybe they’ll ramp it up here for what I’m assuming (and hoping) is the blowoff. Charlotte retains.

WINNER: Charlotte

TLC - WWE Tag Team Championship Triple

Ladder Match for the Tag Team Championship: New Day (c) vs The Usos vs Lucha Dragons

Top Draw: I feel like this was a match booked for Money In The Bank but Creative realized at the last moment that it would be pretty stupid to book only tag teams in a match for one prize. There’s no doubt that the WWE is hoping to rekindle the magic of the Hardys/Dudleyz/Edge & Christian but I have a feeling they are one tag team short. The Lucha Dragons may be fun in small doses but a three-way ladder match? I have a feeling this will be the match that I’m winching through the most. I think the New Day finally jumped the shark with their unicorn horns on RAW so maybe there will be a title change but I’m thinking that may be saved for the Rumble.

WINNERS: The New Day

JC: This is a tricky one for me. Part of me thinks that New Day as Tag Champs has run its course. And I can honestly see a face turn in the near future. But there are ZERO heel teams in the tag division. I also think New Day vs The Wyatts could still happen at Mania. And New Day doesn’t need the Tag Titles for that. I see a Title change coming, and I’m going with the Usos to win it here.

JSP: Is it any coincidence that the only match I’m really interested in here is the one that WWE actually let flesh out? I’m not going to say they built this WELL, but the freedom New Day has to do… well, anything, makes their matches interesting at the very least. Couple that with the fact that they’re in a ladder match with equally exciting in-ring teams, I don’t see a situation where this fails. And odds are, unless they get their balls cut, this is going to be a pretty easy Match of the Night. I see New Day retaining in some form.

TLC - Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose

Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Dean Ambrose

Top Draw: A match fans have been waiting for since Owens debuted on the main roster has had the proverbial redheaded step-child version of a build. Granted, Owens vs Ambrose probably doesn’t need much but no build would have been better than what they received. I think it’s safe to say we’ll get a rather hard-hitting match & while an Ambrose/IC title run would be fun, with Sami Zayn on the verge of a full-time return I feel Owens may hold the title for just a little while longer (that is unless Zayn costs him the white strap in this match).

WINNER: Kevin Owens

JC: I’m going to guess this will be the best match of the night. Of course, just like every other match on the card, the set up was half-assed. Popcorn and soda throwing? I like Dean Ambrose but I would hardly call that being a lunatic fringe. Ambrose can be so much better than that. If Owens fighting Brock Lesnar at Mania is true (which I doubt), he would need to drop the Title soon. But Ambrose isn’t the right guy to win it. He doesn’t need the Title. I’m going with Owens retaining here.

WINNER: Kevin Owens

JSP: Another horribly missed opportunity on the feud front. Both guys have the most dynamic personalities on the main roster and they just coasted along without giving either guy A) motivation or B) anything resembling character development. In theory, this is a Feud of the Year candidate but in execution it’s yet another cold matchup that doesn’t seem to hold any weight regarding consequence or intensity. I see Owens retaining here though, because this is something they’re probably dragging out as long as possible.

WINNER: Kevin Owens

TLC - WWE World Heavyweight Champion

TLC Match For The WWE Championship: Sheamus (c) vs Roman Reigns

Top Draw: Ah the match no one was pining for. Now look, I wasn’t as down on last week’s closing segment as most people but that’s not to say it wasn’t awful. I was long. DAMN long! I firmly believe that no promo segment should ever close out Monday Night RAW unless it involves someone named Dwayne. Sheamus has never been the greatest talker and Roman always appears stiff & uncomfortable in scripted segments. The physicality of the segment was nicely done however most of the audience had turned off RAW well before the table crashing spear. Here’s my wish for this match: I wish that the expectations are so low that both men blow us away with a hard-hitting, intense match. Well, we can always pray.

WINNER: Roman Reigns

JC: I never want to eat tater tots ever again after Monday. That Roman Reigns promo actually made me want John Cena poop jokes back. That’s how bad it was. Equally as bad has been the WWE Title reign of Sheamus. That just equals a really bad main event scene. And I have a feeling this match might be absolutely shit on by the Boston crowd. Can the WWE really continue on with a Sheamus Title reign? I don’t think so. I’m going with Reigns finally winning the Title here. I’d rather Reigns go into Mania with the Title than Sheamus. Reigns has at least been established as a top star in the past few months. Sheamus has not.

WINNER: Roman Reigns

JSP: For the sake of brevity, I won’t go too far into the awfulness of this feud, because it’s a widely known ‘fact’ that neither of these guys are even close to over. For a main event, this is perhaps the worst case scenario you could have thought up for Survivor Series fallout. That being said, this match has good potential if we take all the storyline BS out of it. Both guys are able to carry themselves well in the ring, and the TLC stipulation should give them some wiggle room to cover up for any weaknesses either man may or may not show. But as I said, neither man is anything RESEMBLING over, so beyond the pops for spots, this will have -35 degrees of heat. I don’t see a world where Roman Reigns gets the title here though, so I see Sheamus winning with help from the League of Nations to keep this debacle going to the Rumble.

WINNER: Sheamus
