Lucha Underground: Season 2, Episode 7 Review

Lucha Underground Header

-We start the show with The Mack telling Sexy Star he wants her in his corner against Marty the Moth tonight. She says no at first, but eventually agrees.

Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs The Mack w/Sexy Star

-The crowd chants “No Means No” at Marty as he creepily stands behind Melissa Santos. He plays up the creeper part so well it almost makes you think he isn’t in character.

-I know the announcers don’t see backstage stuff like we do. But it would be nice for Striker or Vampiro to say that no one saw or heard from Sexy Star while everyone was away from the temple.

-The Mack has control, but the lights go out and out comes a woman to distract The Mack and cause Sexy Star to sit down in fear. Marty hits a Curb Stomp off the second rope for the win. After, he says the woman is his sister, Mariposa. She then kicks Sexy Star.

WINNER: Marty “The Moth”- The match was pretty much an angle to introduce Mariposa. There will be more to come of this I’m sure.

-Backstage, Drago confronts Jack Evans and says if Evans is the Dragon Slayer, he should slay him now. P.J. Black jumps Drago from behind. Eventually, Aerostar arrives and helps out Drago. I guess Aerostar got back from his time traveling.

No DQ: Cage vs Johnny Mundo

-Taya comes out instead of Mundo. She says Johnny already beat him, and that while Cage may not be a man, lets see if he has the balls to beat her.

-Taya slaps Cage, but Cage immediately comes back with offense of his own. She catches Cage with a low blow and tilt-a-whirl DDT. Weird seeing Cage sell offense for her.

-Cage blocks a shot with a lead pipe, then powerbombs Taya against the rail and ringpost. Cage then sets up two tables on the outside and suplexes Taya through them.

-Johnny Mundo comes in and hits Cage with a lead pipe, but Cage kicks out of a pin. Mundo then hits Cage with two bottles but it doesn’t phase Cage. Mundo bails, and Cage hits the Flatliner for the win.

WINNER: Cage- Well that was different, but it was fun. Taya did only get a couple of moves in so I’m okay with that. Cage looked like a beast and they are setting him up well.

-Another Famous B commercial. He turned Brenda from no job and car to FAMMMEEEE.

-Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico get a Trios Title Match next week. But if they lose, they are fired.

Lucha Underground Championship: Mil Muertes (c) vs Prince Puma vs Pentagon Jr.

-Puma and Pentagon try to take out Mil early on, but that only works for so long. Muertes tosses Pentagon to the outside. He then tosses Puma who connects on a DDT on Pentagon on the outside.

-Mil and Puma brawl in the stands. Puma then slides down the rail and hits a hurricarrana on Pentagon.

-Pentagon hits a dive to the outside on Mil. Puma then hits two on Mil as well.

-Pentagon and Puma brawl through the crowd. Pentagon hits an AA on Puma on the floor then hits a crossbody on Mil.

-Mil and Pentagon continue to brawl. Mil tosses Pentagon into the folding chairs. Do those people ever sit down completely in one show?

-But wait, here comes Puma to hit a Shooting Star Press on both men from the railing in the stands.

-SUPERKICK PARTY! Puma and Pentagon take out Mil with about 10 of them.

-Crazy finishing sequence. Pentagon hits the Package Piledriver on Puma and goes for the armbreaker. Mil takes Pentagon out with the Spear, then also Spears Puma. He hits a double flatliner and pins both for the win.

-After the match, Fenix comes out and says he is cashing in his Gift of the Gods Championship for a Title match against Mil next week.

WINNER: Mil Muertes– I was somewhat surprised to see Pentagon AND Puma pinned rather cleanly. I mean they both looked good during the match but it seemed weird. Other than that, it was a fun match and the one that LU needed this year. I’ve been saying I was waiting for a breakout match and this was it. Great action throughout. Everyone got their spots in and the action was non-stop.

OVERALL: For me, this was the best show of the season so far. We had the best match in the Title match, a match between Cage/Taya that put Cage over huge and I think makes him the favorite for Aztec Warfare. And the opener set up a storyline and introduced a new character. Fun show that I had zero problem with as a whole from top to bottom.

Until Next Time,
