Former ECW Star Balls Mahoney Passes Away At Age 44

Former ECW star Balls Mahoney (real name Jonathan Rechner) passed away late Tuesday night at the age of 44. According to PWInsider, Mahoney had recently suffered a bad fall and was using a walker to move around.

Mahoney rose to stardom in ECW with his tag team partner Axl Rotten as a member of the “Hardcore Chair Swingin’ Freaks.” Mahoney would carry a steel chair with him and use it multiple times during a match, and was also on the receiving end of chair shots as well. Fans would also chant “balls” when he would land punches and kicks to his opponent.

While Mahoney and Rotten were a popular tag team in ECW, they never won the tag team titles. Mahoney would end up winning the tag titles 3 times, twice with Spike Dudley and once with Masato Tanaka. Mahoney was a part of the ECW revival in WWE as well.

We here at HTC Wrestling send our condolencses to Mahoney’s friends and family.
