Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor tonight at an NXT event in Lowell, Massachusetts to win the NXT Championship.
JC’s Take: Well, this is a lot to take in. First of all, I don’t get why this didn’t happen at NXT Takeover: Dallas. It would have made so much more sense for it to take place there with likely your biggest audience ever watching NXT. That was the original plan according to multiple reports, but plans changed.
So where does this leave both men? Samoa Joe becomes the top guy in NXT. You have to wonder if Shinsuke Nakamura becomes the guy to challenge Joe first. Austin Aries is also a possibility. I would guess Finn gets a rematch at the next Takeover show.
As far as Finn Balor goes, this all but confirms he is on his way to the main roster. With the debut of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson on the main roster it was only a matter of time. With everyone wondering if AJ Styles is the main behind their debut, I would expect a swerve to come and for it to be Finn Balor behind everything. Balor was the original Bullet Club member and has been the one hyping Gallows and Anderosn’s debut for a long time. I would assume Balor debuts either at Payback or the RAW after Payback. The Bulletproof Balor Club could jump right into a feud with Styles. And if the dream scenario comes true, the Bulletproof Balor Club could face a reunited Shield at next year’s Wrestlemania.
