Cruiserweight Classic Review 7.27.16

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Tyson Dux

-Dux is one of those indy guys everyone says is underrated, but has always bored me to equally generic tears every time he’s gotten a chance in ROH or the like. Sabre is the best wrestler in this tournament though so it’s going to be hard for this to be terrible.

-As for the match, if you’ve seen Zack Sabre Jr before, odds are you won’t be surprised by what he pulls out. That said, he’s so goddamn good that even his cruise control is the most fascinating thing ever.

WWE NXT Review 7.27.16 w/JSP

NXT Logo - 2012

– Whoever’s decision it was to insert those laser sounds in the theme should be hung from a tree.

 Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Wesley Blake

-I’d also like whoever composed Wesley Blake’s entrance music to be fined $5,000 and publicly humiliated.

-This earns the status of Best Nakamura Squash Ever solely because Blake blows a cocky kiss at him, and Nakamura CATCHES IT AND STOMPS IT ON THE MAT.

WWE RAW 7.25.16: Five Thoughts w/Justin C

1. The WWE Universal Championship Sounds Really Dumb

-I don’t know who came up with that name, but they should immediately be fired. We get it, you like to use the “WWE Universe” a lot. But that doesn’t mean you name your brand’s World Title after it. My guess is that they didn’t want to bring back the World Heavyweight Championship again. But there had to be better options than what they came up with. You had three weeks to think about this and this is the best you could come up with?

WWE Battleground Preview

Battleground is this Sunday. Once again, it seems like a filler PPV for the WWE. For some of the undercard, it is about tying up loose ends with the brand split. There should be some good wrestling on the card, and the main event is a match people have been waiting to see for two years. Can it live up to the hype? If it was on a bigger show I would say yes. But the story that could have been told wasn’t (thanks Roman Reigns).

On to the preview!

Cruiserweight Classic: First Round Results From 7.20.16

Tajiri vs Damian Slater

-Tajiri looks almost exactly the same. Slater calls himself the “World Beater” because he is the ultimate underdog.

-Slater has a hammer lock applied. Tajiri goes to the ropes for a break, but actually goes out of the ropes then back in to reverse the hold.

-Tajiri’s kicks still look as painful as they used to.

Ultima Lucha Dos Review For 7.20.16: Season 2 Comes To An End

-Sith Vampiro makes Pentagon Jr go into a cave to face his fears. Pentagon Jr attacks a bunch of people in his masks. He takes out the final one that was Vampiro. Vampiro makes Pentagon extinguish the candle Pentagon lit, so Dark Pentagon can take over.

Trios Championship: Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, PJ Black vs Fenix, Drago, Aerostar

-If you saw Mundo, Evans and Black walk into a bar you would think the three biggest douchebags in the world just walked in. And that is why they are great heels.

-Matt Striker makes a point that the refs feel like they are being treated as afterthoughts lately. So I expect that to play a part in things tonight.

NXT Review For 7.20.16 w/JSP

NXT Logo - 2012

– Maybe it’s always been there, but that stupid laser sound in the NXT theme is going to drive me batty. Should have never changed it from Welcome Home, I say.

Samoa Joe vs. Rhyno

Rhyno may be the thickest man on the North American continent.

-As the match starts, it’s your usual TV fare of a hoss battle, although I’d imagine Samoa Joe is better than using a NERVE PINCH on a guy like Rhyno.

My Thoughts: WWE Smackdown Live 7.19.16 w/Cameron Dougharty

SmackDown Header Image 6-9-14

Heading into Smackdown live and the WWE Draft/ brand extension everyone and I MEAN EVERYONE that was a fan of the WWE welcomed the continued change to the WWE landscape. Ten minutes in and I knew the WWE had fooled us all over again. I wasn’t upset at the NXT choices Triple H and Vince McMahon made, hell I’ll even let the Big Show being drafted, on television, go but someone has to draw the line at some of the choices the WWE made last night.
