The main roster wasn’t the only thing to change with the Draft.
The WWE announced on their website today that they will be changing the announce teams, as well as the pre-show and kickoff teams for TV and PPVs.
Here is how the announce teams will be broken up:
RAW- Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves
Smackdown- Mauro Ranallo, David Otunga, JBL
Main Event- Tom Phillips, David Otunga
Superstars- Tom Phillips, Corey Graves
Pre-Shows and Kickoffs- Booker T and Jerry Lawler
Despite what everybody in the wrestling world wants, Michael Cole is never leaving RAW. Mauro Ranallo is better but Cole is the voice of the WWE. And I don’t think that is changing any time soon.
It’ll be interesting to see how Graves turns out with Vince McMahon constantly in his ear. Graves and Phillips are great together on NXT. I might try to catch an episode or two of Superstars just to hear them working together. Maybe graves can now tell Saxton to shut up all the time instead of Tom.
JBL replacing Lawler on Smackdown is also an odd choice. Lawler has been doing pretty well as the 100% heel commentator on Smackdown. JBL used to be tolerable in the booth. Maybe that happens again. Of course, right now I’m picturing JBL in the fetal position crying in the corner continuously saying “MAGGLE, THEY’RE HAVING FUN MAGGLE!” But of course, he is doing it in a really sad voice and crying.
I think Tom Phillips deserves a chance to call RAW or Smackdown some day, but I don’t know when that day will come with Cole and Mauro ahead of him.
