Here was my first prediction:
Andre the Giant Battle Royal
United States Championship: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Luke Harper
Tag Team Titles: New Day (c) vs American Alpha vs Enzo and Cass vs The Usos
Samoa Joe vs Randy Orton
Intercontinental Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Cesaro vs Brock Lesnar
Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs Bayley
John Cena vs The Undertaker
The Shield vs The Bulletproof Balor Club
WWE Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Sami Zayn
Obviously with the brand split taking place, this card will look different. I’m assuming there will be some inter-promotional matches that take place. You can start the story at the Royal Rumble and work your way from there. I believe Finn Balor will just make it back in time for Wrestlemania, which is just under 8 months from his surgery. You can have him appear on TV in the build up to the show but not wrestle. So with that said, lets get to Round 2!
Andre the Giant Battle Royal
-Again, this isn’t going away.
Smackdown Women’s Title: Becky Lynch (c) vs Charlotte
-Somehow Charlotte weasels her way to the Smackdown roster and gets a match against Becky. There is no way Charlotte won’t be on Mania, even if it is the pre-show.
United States Championship: Rusev (c) vs Sami Zayn
-Why not keep the Title on Rusev at this point? I wouldn’t put it on Reigns. Just let Rusev continue to defend it and build some heat, then have Sami Zayn take it from him.
Intercontinental Championship: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Dean Ambrose
-Honestly, this is just a way to get both men on the show. I said this with Bray last time. He just isn’t going to be a main eventer until he starts winning some feuds on a consistent basis. And I see Ambrose dropping down a bit when he loses the WWE Title.
Tag Title Unification Match TLC Match: New Day vs Enzo and Cass vs Gallows and Anderson vs American Alpha
-It might be just me, but I don’t see the Tag Titles on both brands lasting very long. There just aren’t enough credible tag teams to make both divisions work. So I’m taking the top four teams on the roster and putting them in this match. They may not get to TLC Wrestlemania X-7 levels but they will put on a show.
Kevin Owens vs Chris Jericho
-A bit of a drop off for KO. Last time I had him defending the WWE Title. Right now he’s holding the Universal Title. But this feud can have heat behind it. There is eventually going to be a break-up between these two. I would have them fight each other for the Universal Title. But I wouldn’t have them break-up after that. Have Jericho pretend to be okay with losing to Owens. Then at the Rumble, Jericho costs Owens the Universal Title. Owens would become the face, but you don’t have to change anything about him.
Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe
-I’m going to stick with this match. If Orton feuds with AJ Styles late in the fall, Joe can come in and cost Orton the Title at the Rumble. Then you go from there.
RAW Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs Bayley
-I’d be surprised if this changed as well. With Bayley connecting so far on the main roster, I think it is even more likely than before. I anticipate Sasha and Bayley becoming friends over the fall, only for Sasha to turn on Bayley in 2017. And when this happens, it needs to be a VICIOUS attack. You want people to boo Sasha. There will still be some people that cheer her. But if you want the crowd behind Bayley, you need to get over Sasha as a heel.
Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg
-In all honesty I didn’t want to put this match on the card. But with what I have surrounding it, this match is okay. Lesnar should be used to put over younger talent for the remainder of his contract after this. I wouldn’t re-sign him when his contract expires. This can be your spectacle match of the show. I have no problem with a Goldberg return. And I’m sure the majority of wrestling fans don’t as well. Maybe we get the big man match that we should have had at Wrestlemania 20.
Seth Rollins vs Triple H
-Can they stretch this feud out this long? I think so. Triple H doesn’t have to appear on TV every week. Rollins is going to go into this match as the face. You can make the story about Triple H constantly screwing Rollins out of the Universal Title. Rollins calls out Triple H and eventually Triple H answers. My guess is Triple H will have no problem putting Rollins over. Anything but Triple H vs Shane McMahon.
Finn Balor vs The Undertaker
-This is wishful thinking. I would put it at a less than 10% chance of happening. But if you want Balor to wrestle at Wrestlemania and not have to worry about wrestling in the build up, this could be the match. The entrances alone for these two would be great. Hell, I would even have The Undertaker come out first and make him watch Balor come out. You could have Taker come out and challenge anyone to a match at Mania. Balor could come out as the Demon, or just play a video package for him. The whole feud could be about the mind games played between both men. And if this ends up being Taker’s last match, I could see him putting over Balor.
WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
-If Nakamura does not appear on Wrestlemania then there is something seriously wrong with the WWE. The man is going to be a star in the WWE. And that is why I have him winning the Royal Rumble. I’m sure anyone reading this would much rather see Nakamura then challenge AJ Styles. But I have a different path for AJ Styles. Here you can have Nakamura debut, win the Rumble, and challenge a heel Roman Reigns. That’s right, I have Reigns going heel at some point in the fall. He can win the Title at the Rumble and go from there.
WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs John Cena
-AJ Styles should be in line for a long WWE Title run. He’s on fire. There is no one in the WWE as good as him at the moment. If he doesn’t win the Title at Backlash, it HAS to be at the next Smackdown PPV. Styles should go through Ambrose then onto a feud with Randy Orton. We’ve seen how good Styles and Cena work together in the ring and there’s no reason not to let them do it again on the biggest stage of them all. I really wouldn’t even have a problem with Cena winning here, especially if Styles has a great run as Champ. Who would’ve thought Styles could be defending the WWE Title at Wrestlemania two years ago?
That’s 13 matches, one more than last year. But it can work. What do you think?
