Quick Hits: WWE Clash of Champions

-I’m in a good mood so lets see how long it takes for the WWE to ruin it. Go Bills!

Alicia Fox vs Nia Jax

-Alicia is bumping around like crazy to start.

-Foxy gets some hope spots in and hits a crossbody for two.

-Nia has had enough. She slams into Fox in the corner and hits a Samoan Drop for the win.

WINNER: Nia Jax

RAW Tag Team Championship: New Day (c) vs Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

-New Day tossed a couple of full boxes of cereal into the crowd on the way out. That could cut somebody if not careful.

-Luke Gallows takes out Big E and Xaiver Woods outside the ring early, leaving Kofi to fight alone early on.

-Big E gets to the apron and gets a hot tag. He hits a few belly-to-bellys on Anderson.

-Gallows makes a blind tag and they hit the Boot of Doom on Big E, but Kofi breaks up the pin.

-Kofi escapes the Magic Killer and hits Trouble in Paradise on Anderson. Big E hits the Big Ending but Gallows pulls Big E off the pin.

-Kofi hits a dive to the outside. The ref is distracted. Xaiver hits Anderson with the trombone. New Day hits their finisher for the win.

WINNERS and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions: New Day- I’m over New Day as Tag Team Champions. And there were some audible boos in the crowd at the end. Anderson and Gallows look like a joke as a team. Hopefully the WWE just wanted to get to 400 days as Champs for New Day. But they offer nothing as Champs now. Match could have gone a couple more minutes.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: T.J. Perkins (c) vs Brian Kendrick

-Perkins entrance tron and music sounds like it is out of an early 90s video game.

-Perkins goes for a move off the apron, but Kendrick pulls him into the apron skirt and lands some shots.

-After a couple of submission holds, Kendrick tosses Perkins over the top and he snaps his neck back on the top rope.

-Perkins escapes a submission and tries to hit a neckbreaker but they miss time it and Kendrick lands on the side of Perkins.

-Perkins does come back with a nice double chicken wing knee drop.

-And now he goes to the top and hurricarranas Kendrick to the outside.

-Kendrick goes for Sliced Bread #2 but Perkins counters. He hits a Springboard Dropkick but misses a 450 splash. Kendrick goes for the Captain’s Hook but Perkins counters into a kneebar. Kendrick gets to the ropes.

-Perkins hits a Firemen’s Carry into a kick to the head, then applies the kneebar. Kendrick taps.

-After the match Kendrick shakes Perkins hand, but then headbutts him in the face.

WINNER and STILL Cruiserweight Champion: T.J. Perkins- The match was good. But it was much more WWE style than it was Cruiserweight style. A couple of sloppy spots. Kendrick almost slipped twice on his Sliced Bread attempts. Hopefully the WWE lets the Cruiserweights open up more.

Cesaro vs Sheamus

-The story here continues to be the injured back of Cesaro.

-Sheamus goes into the post as Cesaro side steps him.

-Cesaro lands a series of uppercuts then a tornado DDT for two.

-Sheamus ends up in the ropes and Cesaro hits a 619!

-Sheamus goes for a Cloverleaf but Cesaro counters to a pin.

-Cesaro ducks a Brogue Kick. Cesaro gets a two count then does the Swing. Cesaro applies the Sharpshooter but Sheamus gets to the ropes.

-There is a power struggle on the ropes. Cesaro kicks Sheamus off. Cesaro hits a suicide dive and lands ON HIS FUCKING HEAD.

-They crawl back into the ring. Sheamus hits a Brogue Kick but Cesaro kicks out at two.

-Cesaro hits a Neutralizer but only gets two.

-Sheamus knocks Cesaro off the top to the outside. Sheamus dives but Cesaro catches him with an uppercut.

-Still on the floor, Sheamus hits White Noise. Cesaro clotheslines Sheamus over the barricade. The ref calls for the bell after the doctors tell him they can’t go.

No Contest- That was a pretty good match. I had a feeling an ending like this was coming. I really would have preferred a clean finish because I don’t think this needs to continue. I can’t believe Cesaro is actually walking after taking that dive on the head. So I guess we get the blowoff at Hell In A Cell.

Sami Zayn vs Chris Jericho

-Zayn hits a clothesline on the outside then his moonsault off the barricade.

-Jericho uses the ref as a shield, then hits a springboard dropkick.

-Jericho crotches Zayn then kicks him off the ropes as he dominates the early part of the match.

-Jericho misses a bulldog and Zayn starts comeback.

-Crowd is flat for this. They seem worn out from Cesaro/Sheamus.

-Zayn misses a top rope move and Jericho hits an enziguri.

-Zayn catches Jericho with some slaps. Zayn hits the tight rope DDT. Jericho goes to the outside. Zayn dives through the ropes and hits his DDT.

-Jericho moves out of the way of a Helluva Kick. Zayn blocks a Codebreaker. Zayn hits the Exploder Suplex for two.

-Jericho recovers and applies the Walls but Zayn counters into a small package for two.

-Zayn hits a Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Both men crawl to their feet and Jericho hits a Codebreaker for two.

WINNER: Chris Jericho- Another good match. I might have given Zayn the win here because Jericho can bounce off a loss and recover. Zayn’s been lacking in recent weeks and a win would have helped him.

RAW Women’s Championship: Charlotte (c) vs Bayley vs Sasha Banks

-We get the triple dropkick spot early as the action comes to a standstill.

-Charlotte gets out into the tree of woe position and Sasha comes at her with running knees.

-Dana Brooke gets involved as she pulls Bayley off the apron and throws her into the barricade.

-Charlotte dropkicks Sasha into the corner and she bounces off the turnbuckle hard.

-Charlotte rips off Sasha’s DDP taped ribs.

-Bayley finds her way back into the match and hits a corssbody off the top onto Charlotte and Sasha.

-Sasha hits the double knees in the corner on Bayley. She then hits the running knees to the outside on Bayley. How that move doesn’t cause Sasha’s knees to explode I’ll never know.

-Bayley runs back in and hits a Bayley-to-Belly on Charlotte for two.

-All three women exchange chops and punches.

-Charlotte sets Bayley and Sasha up and hits a moonsault on both of them.

-Charlotte hits Natural Selection. Sasha breaks up the pin. Sasha applies the Banks Statement but Dana pulls Charlotte out.

-Sasha applies the Banks Statement on Charlotte. Sasha kicks Dana away but Bayley breaks it up.

-Bayley tries to pin Charlotte but she gets to the ropes and uses Sasha for leverage. Charlotte escapes and kicks Bayley into Sasha. Charlotte then kicks Bayley again and picks up the win.

WINNER and STILL RAW Women’s Champion: Charlotte- Probably the best match of the night so far but with a weird finish. Are they giving Charlotte Hogan’s Big Boot brother? No problem with Charlotte retaining here. And Charlotte/Sasha didn’t almost kill themselves like they did at SummerSlam.

United States Championship: Rusev (c) vs Roman Reigns

-The story of this feud: Roman Reigns wants to know what love is. And he wants Rusev and Lana to show him.

-Reigns stuns Rusev early with some punches so Rusev retreats to the outside.

-Rusev bounces back with a spinning heel kick and takes control.

-They go to the outside where Rusev tosses Reigns into the barricade then the steps.

-Rusev hits a nice dropkick but misses on a diving headbutt. Reigns starts a comeback.

-Reigns goes for a Superman Punch but Rusev catches him with a kick to the gut.

-This match is at a slow pace. Not good for the crowd.

-Rusev goes for the Accolade but Reigns powers out and hits the Spear. But Lana pulls the ref out of the ring. The ref then kicks out Lana.

-Rusev catches a charging Reigns with a Superkick. Rusev applies the Accolade but Reigns powers out.

-Rusev charges at Reigns but Reigns catches him with a Spear for the win.

WINNER and NEW United States Champion: Roman Reigns- OK match. It picked up a bit at the end. I don’t get putting the U.S. Title on Reigns. He’s kind of in that spot where he is a bit too big for it but not ready to go back into the main event. Rusev put on a great performance in the match as did Lana with her antics on the outside.

WWE Universal Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Seth Rollins

-Rollins tosses Owens into the barricade then jumps off the apron and hits a knee to the head.

-Rollins goes for a kick but Owens catches it and kicks Rollins in his injured knee.

-Owens is in control. He tosses Rollins HIGH to the outside then drops an elbow off the apron.

-On the outside Rollins starts to take apart an announce table. But Owens goes back into the ring.

-Rollins gets on the second rope but Owens superkicks his knee then hits the cannon ball.

-Owens hits a gut buster off the top on Rollins then a frog splash for two.

-They go back to the outside where Owens sets Rollins up on the table. He tells the ref to Suck It but Rollins moves and Owens goes through the table.

-Jericho comes out. But Rollins tosses Owens into him. Rollins tells Owens to Suck It and hits a Pedigree but Jericho puts Owens foot on the ropes.

-Ref bump. Rollins counters a pop-up powerbomb into a Pedigree.

-Jericho ends up in the ring but Rollins takes him out and hits a suicide dive on him and then Owens.

-Stephanie McMahon finally gets a ref out. But Owens comes back with a pop-up powerbomb for the win.

WINNER and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens- Way too much stuff going on at the end. The crowd was silent for a good majority of the match. I think they aren’t fully committed for cheering Rollins yet. But it was another solid match. It confirms things will continue. Owens is great at talking trash during the match.

OVERALL: From a work rate perspective most of the matches delivered, especially in the first half of the show. I give the women a slight nod over Cesaro/Sheamus for match of the night, mostly because of the ending. The main event, as I said, was completely over-booked. Reigns beating Rusev was kind of weak. And the Tag Title finish frustrates me. A solid show wrestling wise, but the finishes left me scratching my head.

Until Next Time,

Justin C
