WWE RAW 11.28.16: Five Thoughts w/Justin C

1. This Sami Zayn Storyline Isn’t Going To Get The Payoff It Deserves

-Over the last few weeks I think Sami Zayn has been used well on RAW. He is being used as a sacrifice of sorts for Braun Strowman. But I thought Sami standing up to Foley tonight was good, and Zayn looked great in not backing down from BRAUN or Foley. It should end with Sami getting fired, then going to Smackdown and making a name for himself. Sami shouldn’t be the one to beat BRAUN for the first time, because there is no way in hell the WWE would follow it up properly. My guess is that the WWE just feeds Sami to BRAUN some more then forgets about the storyline, similar to the Neville/Zayn tag team from a month ago.

2. Rusev Deserves Better

-This will be the last time I make a point about Rusev in my Five Thoughts. I’m assuming Vince doesn’t give Rusev the push he deserves because he married Lana, which Vince doesn’t get for some reason. But Rusev is someone who deserves to be used much better than he actually is. If you have seen Rusev work in the ring you know that he is good. He also has grown his character out to the point where he is good on the mic. But now Rusev is stuck in a tag team with Enzo and Cass. It’s a shame this isn’t the Monday Night Wars Era, because Rusev could use a viable place to jump ship to. But Rusev will probably be used to put over Big Cass in the end, then continue to be the “heel” defending the honor of his wife. What a waste of talent.

3. Kevin Owens Has Been Booked Horribly As Universal Champion

-We can talk about how great the pairing of Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens has been. When they are together on TV, they are the highlight of RAW. But when it comes to in the ring, Owens is being booked like shit. He hasn’t won a Universal Title match clean yet. Heels can win clean from time to time. It is okay. This is why heels are so weak nowadays. Then Owens loses clean tonight to Reigns. And the announcers call Reigns a “fighting Champion” despite not defending the US Title since he won it, devaluing the belt. Owens can only make up for the shitty booking so much on the mic. This is one of the problems with the WWE has: its inability to book heels.

4. Brock Lesnar and Goldberg In The Royal Rumble Match Does Nothing For Me

-Speaking of problems the WWE has: Their continuous reliance on stars from the past. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar should be having a rematch at the Royal Rumble. Then they should face new opponents at Wrestlemania and put them over. Sooner or later, someone in the WWE needs to realize this. You don’t have new stars like this nowadays because you don’t book any current stars as top guys. Instead you treat Brock and Goldberg like gods and everyone else like chumps. They aren’t winning the Rumble. Have Brock go over Goldberg, then have Brock face someone like Samoa Joe or Nakamura, then have Goldberg face Roman or BRAUN. Anything but them fighting again at Mania.

5. I Don’t Get The RAW Women’s Division

-Sasha Banks is great. Charlotte is good (I know I’m in the minority there). But I don’t get the booking of this division at all. And that will especially be the case if Charlotte wins the Title back at Roadblock. There isn’t much left for these two to do in a feud. They’ve had pretty much every match possible. What’s next, an Inferno Match? They’ve started integrating Bayley into the feud. But as long as Charlotte’s PPV win streak is looming over the division’s head, I will expect her to win the next match. Smackdown continues to tell a better overall story with their women’s division. RAW leaves me wondering why they are repeating the same formula every month.
