2016 WWE Roadblock Review

Rusev vs Big Cass

-The crowd popped pretty big when they saw Enzo. They don’t care about Big Cass on his own. That is becoming quite obvious.

-All Big Cass so far in the early going.

-They go to the outside and Rusev takes out Enzo. Big Cass gets tripped up and Rusev wins by countout.

WINNER via Countout: Rusev- Wow, can’t even have Rusev go over Big Cass clean? That’s crap. Way too short of a match to mean anything. Can see why they put it on the preshow.

WWE Tag Team Championship: New Day (c) vs Cesaro and Sheamus

-Cesaro hits a dropkick on Kofi right after the bell rings.

-Sheamus and Cesaro work over Kofi early.

-Cesaro hits a running uppercut in the corner then tosses Kofi in the air and connects with another uppercut.

-Big E gets the hot tag and hits his spear through the ropes on Sheamus. Hey, and it didn’t look like Big E killed himself!

-Cesaro comes in and hits a spiral uppercut on Big E.

-Sheamus accidentally hits Cesaro. With the ref distracted Xaiver Woods hits a kick then Big E hits the Big Ending but only gets two.

-Sheamus pulls Kofi off the ropes then hits a Brogue Kick on Big E on the outside. Cesaro swings Kofi then applies the Sharpshooter. Xaiver distracts the ref just as Kofi taps.

-Cesaro transitions a rollup into a Neutralizer but Big E breaks up the pin.

-Sheamus goes for a Brogue Kick but Xaiver comes in and pushes Kofi out of the way and eats it himself. Kofi then hits the S.O.S. for two.

-Cesaro pulls his hand away from a tag, but to use himself as a distraction as Kofi hits Trouble in Paradise and goes for the pin. But Sheamus jumps on Kofi and pins him for the win. New Champs!

WINNERS and NEW Tag Team Champions: Cesaro and Sheamus- Very good opening match and a smart one to have start as crowds always pop for Title changes. Definitely a different and well booked ending. Good nearfalls throughout the match. Cesaro and Sheamus have grown as a tag team and have won me over. Now turn New Day heel.

Sami Zayn vs BRAUN Strowman

-Sami uses his speed early, but BRAUN eventually tosses him to the side then splashes him in the corner.

-BRAUN charges at Sami but Sami ducks and BRAUN goes to the outside. Sami goes for a dive but BRAUN catches him and drops him on the apron.

-BRAUN dominates. Foley comes out with a towel. But Zayn throws it away. BRAUN tells Foley the blood of Sami Zayn is on his hands.

-BRAUN then charges at Zayn but Zayn moves and BRAUN goes into the post. BRAUN then charges at Sami but he moves again and BRAUN goes into the barricade.

-Sami hits a crossbody but gets two. He hits a Helluva Kick but time runs out. So apparently Zayn is the winner? That’s what Jojo said.

WINNER: Sami Zayn- That was weird. Shouldn’t it be a draw? It was never explained that Sami “won” if he lasted ten minutes. BRAUN should not be losing any one-on-one matches at this point. Now hopefully the WWE follows this up with Zayn, unlike every other story they have done with him.

Chris Jericho vs Seth Rollins

-The crowd has a bunch of “Stupid Idiot” paper signs with Jericho’s face on them. Nice.

-Basic offense early until Jericho bails to the outside and Rollins catches him with a running knee then tosses him into the barricade.

-Jericho hides behind the ref and uses the distraction to rake the eyes of Rollins.

-Rollins tries a comeback but Jericho catches him with a knee to the gut.

-Rollins this time catches Jericho with an enziguri then hits the blockbuster neckbreaker for two.

-Jericho counters Rollins and applies the Walls but Rollins gets to the ropes.

-Rollins misses a frog splash, allowing Jericho to hit a lionsault for two.

-A handful of counters leads to a Walls of Jericho. Rollins counters to a pin for two.

-Rollins hits a Frog Splash for two. Owens comes out but Rollins hits him. Jericho had Rollins rolled up when the ref was busy with Owens.

-Jericho yells at Owens to leave. Rollins eventually catches Jericho with the Pedigree for the win.

WINNER: Seth Rollins- Pretty bland match if you ask me. I just am not on board with the Rollins face turn so far, unless he shows an ultra mean/aggressive side in the coming weeks. The Owens/Y2J relationship continues to crumble.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Rich Swann (c) vs T.J. Perkins vs Brian Kendrick

-Swann goes for a leapfrog but Kendrick runs right into the knee of Swann.

-Swann hits a double hurricarrana then leaps off the back of Perkins onto Kendrick.

-Kendrick applies the Captain’s Hook on Swann as the crowd could care less about this match.

-Perkins applies the kneebar. Swann breaks it up.

-Perkins gets the kneebar applied to Swann this time. Swann gets to the ropes and the ref tells him to break while the announcers say he doesn’t have to. So glad everyone is on the same page.

-Swann hits kicks on Kendrick and Perkins then pins Perkins for the win.

-Neville comes out and suddenly attacks Swann and Perkins.

WINNER and STILL Cruiserweight Champion: Rich Swann- I think I heard the clicks of fans tweeting during the match. Action was okay. Neville adds a solid heel to the CW division, although I bet the crowd cheers him because they only know him and don’t care about anyone else.

Ironman Match for the RAW Women’s Title: Sasha Banks (c) vs Charlotte

-Basic mat wrestling to start off from both women, keeping their energy down to start.

-Sasha goes for the Banks Statement but Charlotte escapes to the outside.

-More mat wrestling. Charlotte goes to toss Sasha into the post on the outside but Sasha lands on her feet then hits the double knees off the apron.

-Sasha hits a suicide dive to the outside and actually doesn’t look like she killed herself. That’s two for two if you include Big E’s successful attempt.

-As Sasha walks the apron, Charlotte kicks Sasha’s feet out from under her and she goes face first into the steps.

-Back to the mat wrestling as Charlotte remains in control.

-Past the half way point and still no falls so I’m guessing they are going the HBK/Bret route.

-Charlotte is able to hit Natural Selection but Sasha kicks out at two.

-And of course after I type what I did above, Charlotte hits Natural Selection from the top rope to score the first fall with 11 minutes left.

***Charlotte Up 1-0***

-Sasha rolls through an enziguri attempt and scores a pin despite screwing it up. Eight minutes left.

***Tied 1-1***

-Charlotte goes for the moonsault but Sasha moves. Sasha applies the Banks Statement and moves away from the ropes. Charlotte taps to put Sasha up 2-1 with 6 minutes left.

***Sasha Up 2-1***

-Charlotte knocks Sasha off the top. Sasha gets her knee stuck on the rope so Charlotte drives her own knee down into Sasha’s.

-Charlotte now starts to work over the left knee of Sasha.

-Charlotte applies the Figure Four as Sasha tries to get to the ropes to escape. Charlotte eventually bridges and gets into the Figure 8 and Sasha taps with 4 seconds left.

***Tied 2-2***

-The ref orders sudden death.

-Sasha goes for some rollups and gets two.

-Sasha applies the Banks Statement and is now bleeding. Might have broken her nose. Sasha can’t keep it applied as Charlotte applies the Figure Eight and taps.

WINNER and NEW RAW Women’s Champion: Charlotte- The match definitely picked up in the final ten minutes. Sasha also looked like she broke her nose at some point. I really hope this is the end of this feud, as well as Charlotte winning on PPV and then losing on RAW. Match was good. Not the best from these two, but still good work.

WWE Universal Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Roman Reigns

-Owens takes a powder early on until Reigns chases him on the outside.

-Reigns starts taking apart the announce table, because all WWE main events apparently need that spot to be cool.

-Back on the outside, Owens drops the neck of Reigns onto the barricade then hits a senton off the steps onto Reigns.

-Owens applies a headlock that seems like it has been on for 30 minutes.

-Reigns starts to mount a comeback. Owens hits a German suplex but Reigns comes back with a Samoan Drop.

-Owens counters a Superman Punch into a DDT and follows it up with the cannonball. But Reigns comes right back with a Superman Punch.

-On the top, Reigns goes for a superplex but Owens counters into a spike suplex for two.

-Owens goes for a Swanton but Reigns gets his knees up. Owens rolls out of the ring and gets caught by the Drive By. Owens rolls out again, but moves and lands two kicks to the head.

-Owens frog splashes Reigns from the barricade on the announce table. The table doesn’t break the first time, so Owens does it again. Reigns just beats the count in.

-Owens goes for the Pop Up Powerbomb but Reigns stops and blocks a kick, then hits a sitout powerbomb for two.

-Owens blocks a spear and hits a popup powerbomb, but Reigns gets his foot on the bottom rope.

-Now Owens grabs the Universal Title. The ref takes it from him. Reigns spears Owens but he can’t make the pin.

-Chris Jericho comes to the ring. He hits a Codebreake on Owens, causing a DQ. Jericho and Owens hug after, as it was just a way to get Owens DQ’d and retain the Title.

-After the match Rollins comes out and him and Reigns attack the Best Friends. They powerbomb Jericho through the Spanish announce table then chase Owens up the ramp and powerbomb him through the announce table.

WINNER via DQ: Kevin Owens- I get the ending to reunite Owens and Jericho, but it was also kind of lame. The match picked up in the last few minutes but was pretty average before that. Looks like this isn’t the “end of the line” for this feud, and we will see more of it in the coming weeks.

OVERALL: Not a very good show if you ask me. Some of the matches were P.A.W. (Perfectly Acceptable Wrestling) but it just didn’t add up to a good night. Rollins/Jericho fell flat, BRAUN’s “loss” was weird and the cruiserweights continue to die a slow death. The tag opener was fun and the final two matches had their moments. But the finishes of both again didn’t feel big. Sasha looked weak for not being able to hold off tapping for 4 seconds. And the DQ end in the main event means that the feud isn’t over. I’m giving the show a 4 and I think that might be generous.

Until Next Time,
