Quick Hits: WWE Smackdown Live 4.25.17

Shinsuke Nakamura/Dolph Ziggler Segment

-Dolph Ziggler immediately comes out and interrupts Nakamura. Ziggler boots Renee out and does the interview.

-Ziggler says that Nakamura said his favorite wrestler of all time is Dolph Ziggler, for those that don’t understand Japanese.

-Dolph goes on to say Nakamura was Michael Jackson then went to Japan to become Shinsuke Nakamura. Umm, okay?

-Dolph calls Nakamura overrated. Nakamura takes the mic and said it was his turn to do the interview. Nakamura asks what Dolph Ziggler is and translates it to Japanese then calls him a jackass.

-Ziggler kicks Nakamura then goes for the superkick, but Nakamura moves and drops Ziggler on his face. Ziggler bails before Nakamura can hit Kinshasa.

AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin

-Kevin Owens is on commentary in a very nice black suit/blue shirt combo. He looks great as the New Face of America.

-Corbin uses his power early on. He hits a nice combo chokeslam/backbreaker for two.

-Styles hits a Pele Kick and starts a comeback.

-KO distracts Styles while going for the Phenomenal Forearm. Corbin moves, but Styles reverses into a pinfall attempt for the win.

-After the match KO and Corbin attack Styles. Sami Zayn comes out to make the save. Zayn cleans house. But KO eventually comes back in and attacks both men then hits the pop-up powerbomb on Styles.

WINNER: AJ Styles

Beat the Clock Challenge to Become the #1 Contenders For The Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship: American Alpha vs Primo and Epico

-Well, that was a lot to write there.

-Primo and Epico go to work on Gable early on, as per usual in most American Alpha matches.

-The Colons dominate the whole match. Jason Jordan gets knocked off the apron but comes back and stops Primo and Epico from hitting their finisher. American Alpha then hits Grand Amplitude for the win in 5 minutes and 17 seconds.

WINNERS: American Alpha

-Handsome Rusev appeared via a pre-taped video. He said he doesn’t like Daniel Bryan or Shane McMahon and will only appear on Smackdown if he is guaranteed a Title shot at Money in the Bank. Oh hell yeah!

-Natalya, Tamina and Carmella with James Ellsworth interrupted Becky Lynch. They told Becky she is either with them, or against them.

No DQ Match: Randy Orton vs Erick Rowan

-If the House of Horrors match was made before the Superstar Shakeup like they say, then why are two Smackdown stars pre-shakeup fighting on a RAW show?

-Rowan throws Orton into the steps then uses a kendo stick.

-Orton blocks a suplex from Rowan who tries to suplex Orton to the outside through a table. Rowan wobbles for what seems like forever after a kendo stick shot then eats another one and goes through the table.

-Back from break and now Rowan is in control? Okay.

-Rowan hits Orton with the steps on the outside. Back in the ring, Orton side steps a charging Rowan and Rowan goes into a chair set up in the corner. Orton then hits the RKO for the win.

-Orton talks about Bray Wyatt this Sunday. Jinder comes out and says Orton is overlooking him and disrespecting him because he looks different. Jinder addresses his people in Punjabi, Jinder goes for a cheap shot but is stopped. The Bollywood Boyz help Jinder take out Orton.

WINNER: Randy Orton

-Jinder Mahal stole the WWE Title and left with it in his limo.

Beat the Clock Match to Become the #1 Contender for the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship: Breezango vs The Ascension

-So this is a thing that is happening huh?

-Breezango ended up winning the match and are new #1 Contenders.

WINNERS and NEW #1 Contenders for the Smackdown Live Tag Team Titles: Breezango

Smackdown Live Women’s Championship: Naomi (c) vs Charlotte

-Charlotte quickly tosses Naomi to the floor into a commercial.

-Charlotte has the always dangerous headlock applied back from break.

-Naomi gets a comeback going. I can’t tell what is off with these two but there is something not right. Naomi takes too long to get into her offense and Charlotte makes it obvious what is coming.

-Charlotte blocks a hurricarrana with a sitout powerbomb. She goes for a moonsault but Naomi gets her knees up.

-Suddenly, Natalya, Tamina, Carmella and James Ellsworth come out and attack Charlotte and Naomi to end the match and stand tall to end the show.

WINNER: No Contest

OVERALL: That was a pretty uneventful episode of Smackdown. The women’s match was off again. I just don’t like Naomi’s offense. It takes way too long to develop and looks bad. Nakamura and Ziggler were okay. But everything else just felt like filler. Breezango as #1 Contenders is fine. I still don’t buy Jinder as a threat to the Title. And I’m guessing the ending makes Becky Lynch the Crow Sting of Smackdown Live, sitting in the rafters waiting to pick a side.

Until Next Time,
