Quick Hits: WWE Money In The Bank 6.18.17
The HYPE Bros vs The Colons
-Hey, I was actually able to watch the show somewhat on time today. Mojo gets HYPED and stops Epico from tagging in. He then tags in Ryder who takes out both Colons with a dropkick on the outside.
-Before stupid advertisements for your own Network, Primo drop kicked Ryder’s surgically repaired knee.
-The Colons work over Ryder’s leg until he tags in Mojo. Broski Boot then the Hype Ryder for the win.
WINNERS: The Hype Bros
Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Charlotte vs Becky Lynch vs Tamina vs Natalya vs Carmella w/James Ellsworth
-All the women come out, then they air a video package about the match. Why not do it the other way around?
-All the women go for a ladder except Tamina and she kicks them all off the apron.
-Tamina sets up a ladder horizontally in the corner and catapults Natalya into it.
-Becky and Natalya fight over a ladder. They use it to take out Tamina. Becky pushes Natalya down. She then knocks Carmella off the apron but Natalya comes back and bodyslams her on the ladder.
-Natalya climbs the ladder but Charlotte lifts her off in the electric chair position and drops her.
-Charlotte and Carmella battle at the top of the ladder. Tamina comes in and shoves the ladder down.
-Charlotte knocks out Becky and Carmella with some boots. Charlotte climbs the ladder but Tamina knocks her off with a headbutt.
-Charlotte takes out Tamina and Natalya on the outside with a twisting corkscrew moonsault.
-In the ring Becky powerbombs Carmella but Ellsworth comes in and pushes the ladder over with Becky on it. Ellsowrth then climbs the ladder, grabs the briefcase and drops it to Carmella. The refs discuss it then end up awarding the match to Carmella.
WINNER: Carmella- That match seemed like it was building to another 5-10 minutes. I would not have had an issue with that finish if that happened. Not a lot of innovative spots with the ladders. Match was fine but nothing ground breaking.
Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs New Day
-Jimmy backs Kofi into his corner and Jey catches him with a right hand.
-Kofi gets Jey down on the mat then Big E tags in and splashes him on the apron.
-Kofi gets the rope pulled down on him and he goes over the ropes hard. Jimmy then clotheslines him on the outside and he flips.
-The Usos work over Kofi until, you guessed it, Kofi makes the hot tag to Big E.
-Big E dives and takes out Uso through the ropes with the Spear.
-Kofi gets his leg dropkicked out from under his leg. Jimmy tries taking out Big E but he eats a belly-to-belly as Jey has a half crab applied.
-Kofi applies a rear naked choke on Jey until Jimmy breaks it up. Kofi then hits the SOS for two.
-Jey goes to the top but Big E catches, well tries to catch him but Big E pulls him back up and hits the Big Ending but Jimmy breaks it up.
-Xaiver distracts the Usos. Big E dumps both Usos to the outside and Kofi hits a trust fall dive to the outside.
-Big E and Kofi hit the Midnight Hour finisher but Jimmy pulls out Jey.
-The Usos walk and the match ends in a countout.
WINNERS via Countout: New Day- That was a great match that had a bad ending. The nearfalls were great and The Usos breaking up the pins were well done. But that ending was bad. Why can’t New Day take a pinfall via shenanigans and get a rematch that way?
Smackdown Live Women’s Championship: Naomi (c) vs Lana
-Naomi gets some offense in early. But Naomi goes for a kick so Lana grabs her leg and slams it on the top rope.
-Lana continues to work over the leg of Naomi. She goes for a knee bar but Naomi escapes it by applying a knee choke with the other leg.
-Carmella comes out to distract everyone and tease cashing in. But she doesn’t. Naomi then applies a submission for the win.
WINNER and STILL Smackdown Live Women’s Champion: Naomi- Look, Lana put in a good effort. But it was an average match. And the announcers hyping Lana like the second coming of Kenny Omega was comically forced and bad.
-FASHION VICE FILES! Fandango has a Paul E phone and they get a fax that says to open the door. They get a VHS of two shadowy figures telling them to meet them in the ring later and they can find out who trashed their office.
-Out come Mike and Maria Kanellis. Maria says the “First Lady” is back and that she has been looking for the perfect partner and found Mike, who is using Kanellis instead of Bennett. The entrance them was great.
WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) vs Randy Orton
-They show Greg Gagne, Larry Hennig, Baron Von Rascke, Sgt. Slaughter, Cowboy Bob Orton and Ric Flair in the front row. First I wonder if they are all rolling their eyes at the site of Jinder as Champ. Second, COWBOY BOB ORTON’S ARM IS FINALLY HEALED!
-Orton gets to work early and goes for a quick RKO but Jinder bails. Orton lands some stomps and an elbow then sends Jinder to the outside again.
-Jinder backdrops Orton over the top and “tweaks” his left knee. Jinder sees it so he starts going after the knee.
-The action goes back to the outside. Orton drops Jinder on the barricade in front of the legends. Jinder comes back and drops Orton knee first on the announce table.
-Orton hits a fallaway slam in the ring but Jinder rolls to the outside. This time Jinder slams Orton’s knee on the barricade.
-Jinder applies a Figure Four but Orton eventually reverses it. Jinder gets to the ropes.
-Jinder continues to work over the leg. They go to the top but Orton gets the upper hand and hits a superplex.
-Orton gets a comeback going. He hits the RKO but one of the Singh Brothers put Jinder’s foot on the ropes.
-The ref tosses the Singh Brothers. They try to go after Cowboy Bob but Randy stops them and goes crazy. He RKOs one on the floor then the other through an announce table.
-Back in the ring, Jinder kicks Orton in the knee then hits his finisher for the win.
WINNER and STILL WWE Champion: Jinder Mahal- Well I guess this is still going to be a thing. Jinder pretty much just worked over Orton’s leg the entire match. Just an average match at best. I don’t know where Jinder goes to next but I’m going to assume it is Cena.
The Fashion Police vs The Ascension
-So apparently it was the Ascension who trashed the Fashion Police’s office. That’s exciting.
-The Fashion Police win in a quick matter. So that’s settled.
WINNERS: The Fashion Police
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin vs Kevin Owens vs Dolph Ziggler
-Corbin attacks Nakamura during his entrance and uses a ladder and a light from the stage to beat him down. The match starts without him.
-Corbin and Ziggler team up to take everyone out with a ladder. Corbin attacks Ziggler but Ziggler comes back with a superkick.
-Ziggler knocks Styles off the ropes going for a Phenomenal Forearm. Ziggler then gets Deep Six’d by Corbin on the floor.
-Now it is KO’s turn to take everyone out with a ladder. That is until Styles drop toe holds him onto the ladder.
-KO goes to the top but Zayn press slams him off the top onto an open ladder on the mat.
-Ziggler tosses Sami into a ladder in the corner. Dolph dropkicks him then goes for a superkick but Sami blocks it and hits a Blue Thunder Bomb.
-Styles and Corbin battle at the top of the ladder. Styles gets knocked down by Ziggler who climbed over Corbin. Corbin shoves Dolph off but jumps back up and hits a ZigZag on Corbin.
-Sami hits a pretty smooth sunset flip powerbomb on Ziggler from the top of the ladder. Sami then reverse nelson slams Owens on the apron. Sami tries climbing the ladder but Styles catches him with a Phenomenal Forearm and knocks him off.
-Corbin comes in and slams Styles on the ladder outside. Sami catches him with a Helluva Kick. KO pulls Zayn off the ladder and low blows him.
-KO and AJ go to the apron where a ladder is still set up on the apron to the announce table. AJ eventually gets the upper hand and back drops him on it.
-Styles climbs up and tries to unhook the briefcase but Ziggler pulls the ladder out from under him. Styles tries climbing the rope and unhook it but eventually falls.
-Corbin takes out Ziggler and gets ready to climb but Nakamura’s music hits and he comes out.
-Nakamura knees Corbin out of the ring then hits two Kinsasha’s on Ziggler. Nakamura then delivers a Kinsasha onto Zayn.
-Nakamura goes for a ladder but KO tries stopping him. So Nakamura just goes to the outside and hits Kinsasha on KO.
-Nakamura goes to climb the ladder but looks over to see AJ Styles on the other side. They stare at each other and move the ladder then start to go at it.
-They both climb the ladder. But Corbin pushes them off and climbs the ladder to get the briefcase and win.
WINNER: Baron Corbin- Meh. And this is coming from someone who picked Corbin to win. But it was the predictable story when you could have told a better one with Zayn or Styles. The match itself was good and had it’s usual crazy ladder spots.
OVERALL: The show had some good action with the Tag Title match and the men’s Money in the Bank. But the results, for the most part, left me scratching my head. Ellsworth climbing the ladder and getting the briefcase for Carmella is already causing a shit storm in the social media world. I don’t think there is a way you can fix the backlash, though I personally think it is a tad bit overblown. Corbin winning fits his gimmick but I’d be surprised if he cashes in before Jinder loses. And what is next for Jinder? My guess is Cena eventually. But I would say this was a lackluster show.
