Asuka Suffers Broken Right Collarbone At NXTTakeover Brooklyn
Asuka and Ember Moon had the match of the night at NXTTakeover Brooklyn.
But it came with a price.
WWE.com broke the news tonight that Asuka suffered a broken right collarbone in her match with Ember Moon:
NXT Women’s Champion Asuka broke her right collarbone during her successful title defense against Ember Moon Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, WWE.com has learned.
Due to the injury, The Empress of Tomorrow is not medically cleared to compete, and no official timetable has been given for her return. The typical recovery time for a broken collarbone is 6-8 weeks, according to ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield, who tended to Asuka in Brooklyn.
“During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort,” Dr. Westerfield said. “We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray.”
News of the injury comes as Asuka approaches the 507-day mark of her historic NXT Women’s Title reign. She has yet to be defeated in NXT since debuting in October 2015.

JC’s Take: The fact that Asuka suffered this injury and still finished the match goes to show you how much of a bad ass she actually is. Of course, I am now selfishly upset that I won’t be able to see Asuka in a couple weeks when I go to a NXT house show in Rochester.
This could also play perfectly into calling her up to the main roster without being defeated in NXT. She could simply relinquish the Title due to the injury and come up undefeated. If you ask me, however, that is a cheap way to get out of Asuka not losing. Plus the woman that wins the Title then has the “you never beat Asuka” line hanging over her head when she wins it.
The time frame is short enough that Asuka doesn’t have to wrestle during that time and be ready for the next NXTTakeover show the night before Survivor Series. NXT tapes in bunches so it isn’t that bad. My guess is that is where this is going. She will face the winner of the Mae Young Classic at that show.
