WWE Intercontinental Championship: Miz(c) w/ Miztourage vs Jason Jordan
Booker T is a confusing commentator as he spent the beginning of this match saying that Jordan was getting a free ride because of Kurt. He praised Miz’s ascent. He’s not wrong but as Miz is the heel I thought it should be Corey giving these comments. Suppose he wouldn’t as he’s Jason’s “friend”.
This was a pretty good match, though it had a predictable finish. Jordan had some great offense in it including taking out The Miztourage and hitting a giant suplex that probably could have gotten him the win if it weren’t for Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. Bo distracted the referee while Jordan got a roll up on Miz but the ref wasn’t paying attention. Miz kicked Jordan into a rake of the eyes from Axel and hit the skull crushing finale for the win.
Post Match Renee Young interviewed Jason Jordan in the ring and Jordan said he still doesn’t respect Miz and would like a rematch. He then continued talking saying the crowd chants “You Suck” lovingly at his dad but Miz really does suck. Okay. Pretty good match though, Jordan is just boring to me.
Winner: The Miz
Bray Wyatt vs Finn Balor
This match was being billed as Man vs Man, so okay what a concept. Bray attacked Finn before the bell, beating him into the ringside announce tables and causing injury to Finn’s ribs. Refs began helping Finn to the back, but cocky Bray taunted and gloated before getting on the mic and saying he’s no man- he’s a God. Also said Finn “isn’t a demon, isn’t a man- he’s a coward.” Finn of course came back to fight.
Finn got some early offense but it quickly turned into all Bray all day. Finn played up the ribs and Bray concentrated on those and Finn’s oft injured shoulder. Great spot where Finn trapped Bray on the outside floor between ring apron and ring giving him an advantage for about 30 seconds. Finn’s aforementioned ribs made his climb to the top for his coup de grace harder and at one point when he got there Bray broke out the spiderwalk rendering Finn terrified I guess.
Bray really did dominate this match and it was the best he’s looked in ages. He took a coup de grace to the neck and kicked out, but couldn’t overcome a second soon after and the man managed to beat the Eater of World’s.
Winner: Finn Balor
There is an ASUKA promo during this break and these promos are just fucking awesome. Ashoka premieres at TLC next month.
WWE Raw Tag Team Championship: Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose(c) vs Sheamus & Cesaro
This was definitely match of the night and I’d say 75% of that credit goes to SheaSaro. Their teamwork throughout was off the charts as the tag team psychology really reared it’s head. SheaSaro dominated a majority of the match – every time Ambrose or Rollins would mount a comeback they were ready with a counter move. Both heels made sure to keep the opposing team’s partner out of the corner as often as possible to prevent a tag even when they did manage to get away from The Bar.
There was a MASSIVE moment where Dean Ambrose sling shot Cesaro into the steel post behind the turnbuckle and Cesaro lost at least two teeth. He was seen to by trainers but returned to the match quickly to keep up the nearly flawless performance he and Sheamus put on.
Also a great moment where Rollins nearly helped his team regain control attacking Cesaro on the top turnbuckle, but ended up getting power moves for his trouble right onto a recently White Noised Dean Ambrose. It could have easily given SheaSaro the win, but Ambrose kicked out. Sheamus and Cesaro made one mistake all match – as Cesaro held Rollins back from getting to Ambrose, Sheamus went for a Brogue kick but Ambrose dropped to the ground, then rolled Sheamus up. He got it but went for Rollins kicking Cesaro down instead, leading Rollins to hit a King’s Landing (WHICH IS APPARENTLY HIS KNEE’S NAME?) and Ambrose a Dirty Deeds on Sheamus to retain the titles. GREAT match.
Winner: Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose
WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss(c) vs EMMA vs Sasha Banks vs Bayley vs Nia Jax
This match was a bit of a clusterfuck, but that was to be expected. Whenever Nia was in the ring she dominated -easily manhandling the other women. At one point she got both Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks up for a Samoan drop. She was taken out for a while by a powerbomb from the apron to the outside executed by the other 4 women.
Emma really was the star of this match for me not necessarily for great or spectacular moves, but she consistently went for EVERY opportunity. First to attack in the beginning and first to attack once Nia was out. Of course we ended up having Sasha and Bayley fighting over pinning Alexa or Emma until Nia made her way back in. She wasn’t back for long though as she hit shoulder first hard into the ring post and took herself back out.
After Nia got knocked out, Alexa took advantage of the confusion, threw Bayley into Emma and then hit her DDT on Bayley for the win.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
John Cena vs Roman Reigns
Cena came out first and left time for anticipation to build leading to honest to goodness Cena chants. Reigns got universal boos. After both were in the crowd chanted “You Botch Suck!” And Cena left the ring up the ramp as if to leave. Roman brought him back.
The beginning of the match sure seemed like Cena was pulling an HBK vs Hogan- reacting over the top to everything Reigns was doing. In his lone moment of early control he went for the five knuckle shuffle and in a surprising twist FANS CHANTED “YOU CAN’T SEE ME” WITH CENA.
Reigns does have control for most of the beginning of this match, but couldn’t hit his Superman punch or the spear. Cena did hit an Attitude Adjustment then a second off the second rope. Did not get the 3. Crowd chanted at him “One More Time” and as he soaked in the cheers he tried to take Reigns outside onto the announce tables for another AA. Reigns snapped out of it though and delivered a spear to Cena to break one of the tables.
Reigns went for a spear after a failed pin following the table spot, but Cena hit Reigns with a third AA… then rolled into a fourth… Reigns kicked out. As Cena stood baffled, Reigns hit a Superman Punch then a quick spear and won. Wow.
Following the match Cena stayed in the ring, tears in his eyes. Weird long time leaving, saluted the crowd at the top of the ramp. Out for a long time, but no way Cena retires after a B PPV.
Winner: Roman Reigns
WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Neville(c) vs Enzo A Bore Eh?
um. After Neville spent a long time kicking the shit out of Enzo and talking shit about him Enzo cheated and low blowed him and won the title. It’s disgusting.
Winner: ENZO :(!!!
WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) w/Paul Heyman vs BRAUN
BRAUN dominated the beginning of this match. He was all over Lesnar and hit an early running powerslam while Lesnar missed two early F5s. He had Brock slammed hard into the turnbuckles inside the ring, before taking him outside the ring and slamming him into steel posts out there as well.
Brock didn’t get any sort of advantage until he locked in a Kimura lock, giving BRAUN some problem with his arm even once he got free. After that, Lesnar settled into suplex city and delivered 6 total suplexes to the monster among men. It didn’t lead to his win though as BRAUN managed to hit two more running power slams, but the suplexes and hurt arm from the Kimura made him too slow to get a good pin and Brock kicked out. After, as BRAUN tried to regain control he fell. To ONE F5. Lesnar wins. Damn.
Winner: Brock Lesnar 😦
FINAL THOUGHTS: I really thought this show got off to a great start. I really enjoyed the first 3 matches, and while the women’s match wasn’t the best, it was some good fun. Roman and Cena was okay, it was a good time, but the absolute bonkers fact that Roman Reigns kicked out of 2 AA’s in a row leading to a win is crazy. Enzo and Neville was awful and BRAUN vs Brock had a super anticlimactic ending. We all knew Brock would win- but one F5? But overall I would say it was good fun and worth the watch.
WATCH THIS MATCH: Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs Sheamus & Cesaro: I love Ambrose & Rollins but all the credit in the world to SheaSaro. ESPECIALLY Cesaro after having to deal with losing 2 teeth. He put in a great showing even after that. How’s that for reaching for a brass ring Vince?
SKIP THIS MATCH: Neville vs Enzo: Because it was a horror to watch this travesty unfold.
