NJPW G1 Climax 28 Night 14 Review 8.4.18 W/5 Minute Wrestling Reviews

Night 14 of the NJPW G1 Cilmax 28 tournament was one of the strongest nights so far, with an instant classic from Kenny Omega and Tomohiro Ishii. Kota Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito also had an incredible main event, and the standings are getting tight with only a couple matches for each wrestler left.

• Sanada vs. Toru Yano: Yano attacks during Sanada’s entrance and ties his feet up with his shirt. They trade some roll ups before Sanada locks the Paradise Lock on the outside. Romero unties Yano which allows him to get the turnbuckle pad. They brawl a bit before Yano is locked into the Paradise lock and tied up on a guardrail. Romero is also put in the paradise lock. Sanada wins via countout. **1/2 • Hirooki Goto vs. Tama Tonga: Goto locks in a side headlock and delivers a hip toss. Loa tosses Goto from the top and is whipped by Tonga into the barricade. Back inside they trade forearms before Goto delivers a spinning kick and Saito suplex for a nearfall. Tonga hits a powerbomb but runs into a big lariat for 2. Ref bump is followed by Loa hitting a powerslam. Goto fights them both off and hits a Ushigoroshi. GTR gets 2 before Fale attacks the ref. Fale hits a grenade and red shoes comes out to flip off Fale and DQ Tonga. **

• Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Juice Robinson: Zack delivers big uppercuts with Juice showing great fire egging him on. Juice’s senton is reversed into an armbar. Zack keeps targeting the injured arm. Juice hits a pair of corner lariats and plancha. Juice’s spinebuster is reversed into a Kimura. Juice finally hits a cannonball and continues to sell the injured hand. Juice connects with a jackhammer and Juice Box for 2. Zack reverses Pulp Friction into an armbar, but Juice hits a powerbomb. Juice takes off the cast and delivers a big shot with the left hand. Zack counters Pulp Friction again and kicks the arm. Sabre cranks on the arm and twists the legs in a crazy looking submission which forces Red Shoes to call it. ***3/4

• Kenny Omega vs. Tomohiro Ishii: Omega taunts early on with slaps to the head. Ishii fires back with stiff chops but Omega spikes him right on his head with a DDT for 2. Omega lays in kicks to the back but Ishii smirks and they trade chops to the throat area. Rise of the Terminator is followed by Kataru Crusher for 2. Omega spits in Ishii’s face and lands forearms before Ishii drops him with a stiff shot. Ishii hits a German in the corner and follows with a super Brainbuster for 2. V trigger is followed by a big lariat from Ishii and sliding D for 2. Omega hits a V trigger in the corner is followed by Dr. Wiley Bomb for 2. Omega hits about 5 V triggers and Ishii no sells but runs right into a lariat for 2. Ishii hits a snap dragon and powerbomb. They trade strikes and Omega hits a reverse Rana. Omega hits a double stomp from the ring to the outside. Springboard dropkick to the back of the head follows with a V trigger and Jay Driller for 2. Ishii counters a OWA with a crucifix bomb for 2 and follows with head butts and a big lariat for 2. Omega hits a brainbuster for only 1. Vertical drop brainbuster gets Ishii the win! *****

• Tetsuya Naito vs. Kota Ibushi: After some basic lock ups Ibushi hits a dropkick and they battle on the apron. Naito rams Ibushi’s head into the announce table for a countout tease. Naito targets the neck and left leg. Ibushi finally fights back with a snap rana and Golden Triangle Moonsault. Naito reverses the inside out German and hits the corner dropkick. Figure four gets locked in and they start slapping each other. They trade spots and Naito really plays the heel and hits a package piledriver. Gloria follows and a top rope neckbreaker gets 2. Ibushi hits the Pele on Naito up top. Naito tries for the reverse Rana but Ibushi flips out and hits a lariat for 2. Ibushi hits an inside out German right on Naito’s head for 2 and follows with a Last Ride for 2. They counter finishers before Naito hits Destino for 2. Ibushi reverses another and dumps Naito right on his head. Kamigoye for the win in a great match! ****1/2

Overall: 8.5/10
