WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses 8.21.18 w/ The Chairman

Summerslam has come and gone, but the action continues towards Hell in a Cell Here are the hits and misses of Smackdown Live.

HIT: Five Time Champs and Feel the Power

The main event of Smackdown Live put the Bludgeon Brothers against the New Day in a no disqualification match for the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship. With Harper and Rowan taking a cheap way out of their title defense at Summerslam, they were forced to face New Day again. Big E was ruled out with a rib injury so Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston represented New Day. The match was pretty intense. Lots of use of all the items around the ring. Rowan went for a home run by charging with the mallet towards Kofi, but Xavier pulled him out of the way and Rowan went thru the barricade. This must be how they “write off’ Rowan. Harper then was left alone against Kofi and Xavier. Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise to Harper and put him on a table. Xavier Woods launched off the top rope with the flying elbow and New Day defeated the Bludgeon Brothers to become the five time Tag Team Champions.

MISS: Summerslam Rematches Days Later

If Rowan didn’t suffer the injury he did, do we see New Day face the Bludgeon Brothers this quick? We also seen a rematch of Rusev and Lana take on Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega. I would like to think a pay per view is where superstars settle their feuds, not the weekly show days later. I’m personally not a fan of this match making, but some reason the E does this often.

HIT: Becky Lynch Speaks

After Becky Lynch attacked Charlotte Flair at Summerslam, many in the WWE Universe were curious to hear what Becky Lynch had to say. Becky’s reasons were legitimate of course on how she worked hard to get her title shot against Carmella and Charlotte Flair swooped in and stole her opportunity. Creative tried really hard to make Becky Lynch get booed, but failed. They tried to have Becky Lynch say Summerslam was all about her moment and nobody else’s and how nobody cared about Becky Lynch. I’m fine with Becky Lynch having some attitude and rightfully so, I just don’t think going after Charlotte Flair is going to get Becky the boos creative hopes for. Now maybe if Becky Lynch attacked Paige for putting Charlotte Flair in the match at Summerslam to begin with, then maybe you’ll get some boos. Even then though, I don’t know if you do?

MISS: Too Soon Having Miz and Bryan Again?

Smackdown Live opened with Miz and Maryse and Miz mocked Bryan’s retirement speech and said he will never wrestle Daniel Bryan again. Bryan came out and called Miz a coward. Eventually Maryse got involved and told Bryan to go home and all the sudden Brie Bella runs out and goes after The Miz after Maryse escaped. Miz and Maryse then find Paige backstage and confront her for booking the It Couple in a match at Hell in a Cell against Bryan and Brie. I personally don’t like seeing these two face off again already. Would’ve been better to have Miz avoid Bryan for as long as possible. Then again I guess it makes sense because there’s really nowhere else they could go right now with either Miz or Bryan since Styles and Joe are still feuding. I almost would’ve rather seen Brie Bella vs Maryse at Evolution (and we still could) first before they did the mixed tag match. Either or this is happening.

HIT: Daddy’s Already Out

AJ Styles threatened to rip out Samoa Joe’s heart which means there is unfinished business between the two men. Samoa Joe however got the jump on Styles tonight and took him out. Samoa Joe keeps talking about AJ Styles family which is clearly getting under his skin. More than likely we’ll be seeing Styles vs Joe inside Hell in a Cell for the WWE Championship in a few weeks and I’m okay with this.

MISS: United States of Anakamerica

Shinsuke Nakamura successfully defended the WWE United States Championship against Jeff Hardy at Summerslam, but what’s next for Shinsuke other than crafty American puns? It looks like Jeff Hardy has fully moved onto Randy Orton now leaving Shinsuke Nakamura and the United States Championship with nothing. Hopefully something surfaces soon. A superstar of Nakamura’s caliber, let alone the number two title on Smackdown Live shouldn’t be held in idle position long.

That does it for me. Those are the hits and misses. Follow my twitter @ChairmanSV for the latest and thanks for reading.
