JC’s Top Rope Report: Wrestlemania 35 Predictions, Take 2!

Well, I normally try to do this right after SummerSlam. I may be a few weeks late but I’m here to give you my second round of Wrestlemania 35 predictions! Lets take a look at my first set of predictions right after Wrestlemania 34:

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs Becky Lynch

Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe

Bobby Lashley vs Braun Strowman

IC Title Ladder Match: Kevin Owens (c) vs Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin vs Elias vs Drew McIntyre vs Bobby Roode

US Title: Jeff Hardy (c) vs Andrade “Cien” Almas

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs Finn Balor

RAW Women’s Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs Charlotte Flair

So where do my thoughts stand now that we are past SummerSlam and into the fall season? Well lets get down to it!

Bobby Lashley vs Braun Strowman

I’ll stick with this one, especially now that Strowman has turned heel. I don’t think that this heel turn is something that ends up being a short term thing. And I think the WWE is intent on doing something with Bobby Lashley. Right now that is nothing but I doubt Lashley came back to not get a singles match at the next Wrestlemania. Let these two have a big man battle and be done with it. To think, around this time last year we entertained the idea of Braun fighting for a Title at Mania!

AJ Styles vs Randy Orton

Yeah, I’m switching from my annual Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe prediction. They have gone back to heel Randy Orton and I think that is where they are staying with him. While this match could easily be for the WWE Title, I think they are going in a different direction with that. Styles has had a great run and it isn’t out of the realm of possibility he holds the Title until Wrestlemania. But I see the WWE Title picture going differently.

IC Title: Drew McIntyre (c) vs Dolph Ziggler vs Finn Balor

From WWE Title match to IC Title match again. I don’t know why I thought the WWE would give a new push to Finn Balor this year. Instead he has been in a summer long feud with Baron Corbin. That poor guy. I wish Finn was back in New Japan at this point. I also think the McIntyre/Ziggler pairing ends by this time next year. They are tag champs now, but you can take the Titles off them and have that lead to the breakup angle. Add Finn in to get the people fully interested and you have a good match.

US Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Jeff Hardy vs Andrade “Cien” Almas

Almas has looked really good in his last couple matches with Daniel Bryan. I think the WWE sees the star potential in Almas. Meanwhile Nakamura has had the US Title for the last few weeks and not even been on TV. And I expect Jeff Hardy to take some time off after he nearly kills himself inside Hell In A Cell. So that leads us to this match. It gets the Title and everyone on the show.

John Cena vs Samoa Joe

Cena has been M.I.A. from the WWE ever since Wrestlemania as he makes a career for himself in Hollywood. I would not expect him back any time this year. Cena doesn’t have a brand, so I’m moving him to Smackdown to fight Samoa Joe. Joe has shown his worth in this feud with AJ Styles. He might get a short term reign, but I don’t think the WWE sees him as a long term Champion.

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs Asuka

RAW Women’s Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs Charlotte Flair

I’m keeping these the same for now, outside of putting the Title on Becky in her match. But, if the WWE mishandles this Charlotte/Becky story then they could have a major problem on their hands. It might not blow up as badly as the Daniel Bryan situation at Wrestlemania 30, but it could get close. Becky might be the most over wrestler on the entire roster right now. Even on Smackdown last night they did a backstage interview with both, Becky still got audible cheers over Charlotte from the crowd.

Assuming the WWE goes with the RAW vs Smackdown angle for Survivor Series again, I almost think Becky has to win the Title by then. They aren’t going to do Ronda vs Charlotte there. And if they do Ronda vs Charlotte, Champion vs Champion, at Wrestlemania that will 100% backfire. Charlotte has to be the heel against Ronda so they might luck out in the end. But they are going to be playing a dangerous game if Becky loses to Charlotte multiple times.

WWE Championship: The Miz (c) vs Daniel Bryan

When the WWE started this feud over the summer I thought there was no way this feud would continue until Wrestlemania. Then for the big show in Australia, they announced Miz vs Daniel Bryan for a future WWE Title opportunity. And that peaked my interest. I think Miz wins that match and ends up getting a shot at AJ Styles. And I think Miz is the one to take the Title from him. People may not like it, but the Miz has been one of the better performers in the WWE over the last few years. He’s great on the mic. And while his wrestling style won’t wow you, he’s fine in the ring. And at Wrestlemania, you will have 70,000 people dying to see Daniel Bryan get the WWE Title again. It’s a great story that the WWE can tell. Bryan has proven he can stay healthy so far. Wrestlemania will be his reward.

Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

If I had done this column last week as intended, I wouldn’t have thought twice about this match. But man, did they tease this hard on RAW this past Monday. And the WWE doesn’t normally like to tease a match like this that they can’t deliver. Now would I prefer HBK to face someone else like AJ Styles or Seth Rollins? Sure. But that isn’t Vince McMahon’s line of thinking. Taker can say Mania will be his last go around, and he wants to fight Michaels one more time. That way Michaels can come out of retirement and not “disrespect” Undertaker in the process. I still say its 50/50 that it happens, but I found everything that happened on RAW very interesting.

Roman Reigns vs The Rock

Universal Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs Seth Rollins

I’m putting these two together again. There have been rumors that The Rock wants to wrestle at this year’s Wrestlemania. In all honesty, the best opponent for him would be Roman Reigns. But that match does not need to be for the Universal Title. No one would believe that The Rock would win it. And if The Rock won the Royal Rumble? That ends up leaving a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths.

So how do we get these two matches? I’d have Ambrose be the one to breakup the Shield this go around, right before the Royal Rumble. Ambrose faces Reigns for the Title at the Rumble and wins. Rollins can win a number one contender’s match at the February show. Meanwhile, have The Rock take some jabs at Roman on social media and have him call out the Rock for Mania. Simple as that.

And as evidence by these predictions, I do not think Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Cody are coming over in 2019. A year or two down the line? Maybe. As much as we don’t want to admit it at some point the Bullet Club bubble is going to pop.

So what do you think?

Until Next Time,
