JC’s Top Rope Report: So You’re Given The Keys To Book To Wrestlemania
Admit it, we have all played arm chair booker before. We’ve all played Monday Morning QB. It is in our DNA, especially as wrestling fans. And that is especially the case if you are a fan of the WWE. Most of the time we are complaining as fans and tell everyone how we would book things differently. But as I have said numerous times on the HTCWrestling Podcast, the fact that we have no idea what to expect going into this year’s Wrestlemania is great. Outside of two top matches everything else seems to be wide open.
Well, what would happen if I was given the keys to book Wrestlemania from here on out? Of course I do my Wrestlemania Predictions throughout the year. But this is different. Vince McMahon just called me today and said I can book Wrestlemania 35 any way I want it. So how would I go about doing it? Let me walk you through it!
*Note that I’m just the head of creative. Vince is still in charge on screen.
We open the show with Asuka vs Becky Lynch. Charlotte Flair comes out at the end of the match and distracts Becky Lynch. She hits Becky with a kendo stick and Asuka rolls up Becky for the win. Becky is furious and goes backstage where Vince McMahon is “moderating” the drawing of the numbers for the women’s Rumble. While Nia Jax is drawing her number, Becky storms in demanding she be put in the Rumble to get revenge on Charlotte. Vince tells Becky that all the spots are taken as Nia laughs in Becky’s face. Becky tells Vince that somehow she will end up in the Rumble, she guarn-damn-tees it.
Ronda Rousey beats Sasha Banks in the RAW Women’s Title match. I like Sasha, but Ronda is holding the Title going into Mania.
The women’s Royal Rumble gets going. We get to #21 and no one comes out. We cut to a shot in the back of Nia Jax laid out. Becky is standing over her and grabs Nia’s number and walks to the ring. We get down to the Final Five of Mandy Rose, Naomi, Mickie James, Becky Lynch and Charlotte. Mandy dumps Naomi and brags at her, so Becky comes from behind and dumps Mandy. Mandy and Naomi start brawling on the outside and the refs break it up. While this is happening, Becky eliminates Charlotte. But guess what? We get a re-do of the 97 Rumble where the refs don’t see it happen. Becky eliminates Mickie. Becky lets her guard down thinking she won, but Charlotte comes from behind and dumps Becky. Charlotte wins the Rumble, screwing Becky over yet again. Becky finds Vince in the back and asks if he saw what just happened. Vince says he will review things and have an answer for Becky on Tuesday. Becky tells Vince it better be a good one, otherwise she won’t be afraid to “dis-arm you, old man.”
On the men’s side of things, Daniel Bryan defeats AJ Styles. Nothing crazy there. Same with Cesaro and Sheamus beating Miz and Shane McMahon. Daniel Bryan deserves to go into Wrestlemania 35 as Champion.
The RAW side of things is a little bit different. I’ve said this a couple of times, but I’m booking Finn Balor vs Brock Lesnar the same way the WWE booked Eddie Guerrero vs Brock Lesnar from No Way Out 2004. We get a ref bump just as Finn is getting the upper hand. Brock lands a F5 on Finn, but out comes Braun Strowman. Strowman takes out Lesnar with three running powerslams, including one through an announce table. Finn hits multiple Coup de graces on Brock and pins the Beast, winning the Universal Title.
I’m going to stick with Seth Rollins winning the Royal Rumble. There were a few other options I considered, but I’m going with this one.
The Next RAW and Smackdown
RAW starts the next night with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman in the ring. Heyman demands a rematch against Finn. Heyman also demands Braun come out right now and fight like a man. Braun does just that, and they brawl in the building as the roster, security and officials break them up. Vince finally comes out and say both men will get a shot at the Universal Title at the Elimination Chamber because Finn will defend against both in a Triple Threat match.
Nia finds Vince in the back and says she was taken out by Becky and deserves a shot at her and a Title. Vince tells Nia the same thing she told Becky, he will have a decision on Tuesday.
Ronda is out thanking the fans with Natalya and as she is thanking Natty, Natty attacks her and lays her out. Natty blames her recent failures on Ronda and how everything was about Ronda.
Seth Rollins gets his feud back going with Dean Ambrose. The two build up to a street fight at Elimination Chamber with Rollins Title shot at Wrestlemania on the line.
On Smackdown we have a Fatal 4 Way match to determine the person who will face Daniel Bryan at Elimination Chamber between Rey Mysterio, Andrade, Mustafa Ali and Samoa Joe. The match is one by Rey Mysterio and we get a one-off match at Elimination Chamber between Bryan and Mysterio.
Vince gives his answer to Becky. Vince tells Becky that she was screwed over by Charlotte, just like she screwed over Nia. So at Elimination Chamber, Becky faces Nia Jax. The winner then faces Charlotte at Fastlane. And if they beat Charlotte then they get added to whatever match Charlotte chooses for her Wrestlemania Title shot.
In the weeks ahead, we also set up an Elimination Chamber match to determine who will fight Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title at Wrestlemania. The competitors are Nakamura, Rusev, Kofi, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton and AJ Styles.
Elimination Chamber Card
Universal Title: Finn Balor vs Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar- Finn wins after Brock hits a third F5 on Braun, but Finn knocks out Brock with a chair and hits a Coup de Grace on Braun to win.
WWE Title: Daniel Bryan vs Rey Mysterio- Bryan wins
Smackdown Elimination Chamber: Who wins? Well yeah, I’m getting crazy and going with Rusev here. Who is there on the Smackdown side of things that is going to step up?
Nia Jax vs Becky Lynch: Becky wins. It puts to rest the Becky/Nia feud as well
Ronda vs Natalya: Ronda wins. After the match, Charlotte attacks Ronda and tells her she will see her at Wrestlemania.
Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose: Rollins wins and put an end to this feud once and for all.
Women’s Tag Titles: I’m going with the chase here. Sasha and Bayley don’t win right away. Sadly, I’m giving the Titles to the Bella Twins.
I *REALLY* hate that there are two PPVs between the Rumble and Wrestlemania.
We already have Becky vs Charlotte set, and if Becky wins she gets in on the Charlotte vs Ronda match. Guess what? Becky wins.
John Cena pops back up on Smackdown and says since he missed the Rumble, he feels like fighting for a Title shot at Fastlane. Bryan wins after Samoa Joe takes out Cena and causes a DQ.
Finn Balor and Seth Rollins have their first face to face interaction on the RAW after the Chamber. They get attacked by a returning Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and we get a tag match at Fastlane where KO and Sami win after mis-communication between Rollins and Balor.
Over the last few weeks Rey Mysterio and Andrade had gained a mutual respect and go after Sheamus and Cesaro for the Tag Titles. But Andrade turns on Rey during the match.
There’s nothing else I can think of that would make me think Fastlane would be important.
Universal Title: Finn Balor (c) vs Seth Rollins
WWE Title: Daniel Bryan (c) vs Rusev
RAW Women’s Title: Ronda Rousey (c) vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair
Smackdown Women’s Title: Asuka (c) vs Ember Moon- Ember wins an open challenge at Fastlane from Asuka issued to both rosters
John Cena vs Samoa Joe
The Undertaker vs Drew McIntyre- Undertaker is announced as the first Hall of Fame entrant the night after Elimination Chamber and is promptly laid out by McIntyre
Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar- No DQ
AJ Styles vs Randy Orton
The Miz vs Shane McMahon
Rey Mysterio vs Andrade, Mask vs Hair
Women’s Tag Titles: The Bella Twins (c) vs Sasha Banks and Bayley
So, what do you think?
