WWE RAW 1.28.19: The Three Key Stories w/Justin C
1. What Is Going On With Kurt Angle?
I’m legit baffled by the story being told with Kurt Angle here. Last night he was eliminated within minutes of being in the Royal Rumble. Tonight on RAW he lost to Baron Corbin. I never thought that would be a sentence I type. Kurt Angle lost to Baron Corbin. If they are doing a retirement run with Kurt Angle, you would want him to win a handful of matches before going into Wrestlemania. But instead they are having him lose and lose quickly. I’m assuming it isn’t building up to a Kurt Angle Title match at Wrestlemania (and it shouldn’t). But if you were building up to a retirement match, you would want him going in looking good rather than this. I know it has only been two days so far but whatever is going on is just head scratching.
2. Ronda Rousey’s Worst Night
Rousey has exceeded my personal expectations when it comes to in ring work so far on the main roster. But her promo skills are not there yet. And tonight they were fully exposed. She came out to cut another long promo but was met with Becky chants. She stumbled over some words then just laughed. Then it looked like someone told her to stop and they sent out Bayley to answer her open challenge without Ronda finishing her promo. Then after her match with Bayley, Becky came out to a thunderous ovation and challenged Ronda at Wrestlemania. It is going to be a long road to Wrestlemania because Becky is going to own Ronda on the mic. I talked myself into a triple threat but the energy in the building between Ronda and Becky was great. Charlotte just seems like an unnecessary add on.
3. RAW Ends With a Whimper
The closing segment of RAW was Seth Rollins choosing his opponent for Wrestlemania. Brock Lesnar came out with Paul Heyman and Heyman started going right at Seth Rollins, telling him he should choose Daniel Bryan. Rollins came out and got some shots in on Brock, but was then immediately taken out by five F5s. I would have liked to see Rollins either get more offense in or cut a short promo of his own. Rollins never really officially said he’d challenge Lesnar, but it was all but implied that was the case. It’ll be interesting to see what the WWE has in store for these two big programs leading into Wrestlemania as they have two and a half months of TV to fill. They need to build up Rollins a bit. The crowd wants to get behind him and the WWE needs to let them going into Wrestlemania.
-I’d be all for an Alexa Bliss face turn. I have confidence she can adjust her character properly.
-Elias randomly turned heel, right after I was getting bored with him. But he turned heel by attacking Jeff Jarrett, which makes him a mega face in my eyes. Don’t need to see this program.
-I have a soft spot for Mojo so I’m here for a new Mojo push.
-First Drew McIntyre is paired with Dolph Ziggler and now he is with Corbin. Poor guy.
