WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses 2.26.19
HIT: KO Has Returned
In a unsuspecting turn of events, Kevin Owens returned to Smackdown Live tonight. Nobody knew when KO was coming back, some expected Wrestlemania. However he returned tonight at the expense of Kofi Kingston. Last week Kofi of course was awarded the WWE Championship match against Daniel Bryan at Fast Lane. Vince McMahon however had other plans and took the match away from Kofi and gave it to Kevin Owens. Owens and Kofi then teamed up at Owens request to take on Daniel Bryan and Rowan where Owens scored a pinfall victory. We can only speculate Kofi will finally get his shot at Wrestlemania, but obviously we have to get thru Fast Lane first.
MISS: Inconsistent Story
Granted pro wrestling fans shouldn’t look to far into things, but there’s those fans like me that remember things. I remember not too long ago when Kevin Owens headbutted Vince McMahon and beat the crap out of him. I also remember Owens getting banished from Smackdown Live along with Sami Zayn when they lost to Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania last year. Now I’m supposed to forget all this ever happened. Also remember Owens was a Raw superstar and now he’s on Smackdown? Clearly the brand split is complete chaos right now, but then again since the McMahon’s oversee both shows I guess they can move superstars around as they see fit.
HIT: Aleister Black and Shinsuke Nakamura Need to Feud
Aleister Black and Ricochet continue their random tag team and this time they challenged Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. The match was solid and fun to watch. Black and Ricochet of course rack up another victory, but I think a Nakamura and Black rivalry could be great going forward. Both of them use lots of kicks in their offense and the mind games would be entertaining. Of course we probably won’t get that and I personally hope Black and Ricochet start working singles matches soon.
HIT: Matt Hardy is Woken
Another surprise of the night was the return of Matt Hardy. He joined forces with his brother Jeff in a match against the Bar. Matt and Jeff managed to score a victory and now the question is whether or not this is a one time thing. Being Smackdown Live took place in Charlotte which was close to Matt’s home, it could very well be a one time appearance. Guess we’ll have to wait and see whether or not the Hardy Boyz are reunited again. If so, we could definitely see them at Wrestlemania challenging the Usos for the tag titles.
HIT: R Truth Open Challenge
R Truth made his return to Smackdown Live and is now impersonating John Cena. He held an open challenge for his United States Championship which was answered by Andrade. Rey Mysterio showed up and knocked Andrade down before he reached the ring and this left Truth with a decision. He decided to face them both and the action was solid. I didn’t expect Truth to retain here, but he managed to roll up Mysterio and survive.
Overall a solid episode of Smackdown Live. We had surprises, great in ring action, and storyline progression and think of all the wrestlers not featured tonight. It’s crazy to think how different Smackdown Live is from Raw. With that, follow me on Twitter @ChairmanSV and thanks for reading.
