WWE Smackdown Live Hits and Misses 4.2.19 w/ The Chairman
HIT: Orton and Styles Are Ready For Wrestlemania
This feud has quietly become one of the best stories going into Wrestlemania. Lost in the shuffle of all the titles and chaos, Orton and Styles have created one of the most personal feuds. Orton doesn’t like Styles because of his days as an independent wrestler and referred to him tonight as the new corporate bitch now that John Cena’s gone Hollywood. Styles doesn’t like Orton and even brought up Orton’s past issues with drug test violations. It’s definitely a great story and tough to pick a winner here. If you’re curious who I think wins, make sure you check out our HTCWrestling Podcast where we predict who wins this match and all the other Wrestlemania matches.
MISS: Hardys Denied Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos teamed up with Ricochet and Aleister Black and defeated League of Nations 2.0 The Bar and the team of Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. After the match, Alexa Bliss showed up and decided to make the Usos defend the Smackdown Live tag team titles against all three of the other tag teams involved. I’m sure this match will be good at Wrestlemania, but definitely a missed moment not having the Hardy Boyz here. I would’ve preferred a one on one match between the Usos and Hardys being both tag teams are some of the all time greats and both brothers. Instead the Hardys have been reduced to the Andre the Giant battle royal that ironically enough Matt won last year. Yeah who remembered that honestly?
HIT: The Contract is Signed
Of course there’s always that fear that Vince McMahon might throw a curveball into Kofi Kingston’s Wrestlemania plans, but that wasn’t the case. Kofi and Daniel Bryan were featured in the final segment of Smackdown Live to sign a contract for their title match. Bryan and Kofi didn’t really add anything new to the build, but it’s nice knowing that this match is official. That is of course Vince doesn’t try anything between now and Wrestlemania.
MISS: Eighteen Man Tag Team Match
It’s bad enough we have to deal with the participation trophy battle royal matches at Wrestlemania, but on Smackdown we got to witness superstars join forces in a chaotic match. There’s no reason to ever have this many wrestlers involved in a tag team match. After the match of course they had to have a battle royal segment where Asuka stood tall in the end.
Overall there wasn’t much to witness here. Couple random matches such as Samoa Joe making quick work of Ali and the Miz defeating Sanity. Basically this episode of Smackdown Live was to tie up all the loose ends before Wrestlemania. Make sure you follow @ChairmanSV as I will be live tweeting all the big events this weekend including Wrestlemania. As always, thanks for reading.
