Shingo Takagi vs Taichi

I have to admit, Taichi brought his A game in this match. It probably helped that Shingo made him look like a million bucks as well but Taichi was no slouch. Taichi hit some nice looking enziguris, including one where he ducked a sliding lariat and spun around and connected with one. Both men kicked out of signature moves. Shingo won the match with a Pumping Bomber and Last Falconry. Very good match.

WINNER: Shingo Takagi

Jeff Cobb vs Juice Robinson

So Cobb had a great first match with Ishii. Then I thought his match with Moxley was bad. This one was somewhere in between. I still don’t think they are letting Cobb show his full potential. He hits his signature power moves and doesn’t do much more. And even this match was pretty much all Juice until the end. Cobb hit some nice German suplexes and won with Tour of the Islands. But Cobb is capable of much more than he has shown so far.

WINNER: Jeff Cobb

Jay White vs Toru Yano

The match starts in typical Yano fashion with delays. White stopped himself from going into the exposed turnbuckle. Both men hit low blows for near falls. Gedo comes in the ring with brass knucks. Yank steals them from him and gets Red Shoes to take care of Gedo. Yano then low blows White with the brass knucks for the win. I’m really surprised by that one. I have to assume White wins the rest of the tournament until the final night against Naito.

WINNER: Toru Yano

Hirooki Goto vs Tetsuya Naito

Goto worked the leg kicks early on, until Naito slammed his left leg down into the apron. Thankfully Kevin Kelly didn’t go off about it being the hardest part of the ring. Naito worked over the leg the rest of the match. Goto kicked out of Destino before Naito hit a second one for the win. I really wonder if Naito comes up with a new finisher with everyone kicking out of Destino. Goto has looked good all tournament and tonight was no different.

Tomohiro Ishii vs Jon Moxley

What a great match. The crowd was super hyped for it before the bell even rang. Then when it started they just went at it. They brawled around ringside and all around the arena. They played sword fight with chairs. Ishii did a dive off the top through a table onto Moxley. Both men did the no sell of lariats and forearms. Everything looked great and Ishii continues to be the G1 MVP. Moxley won after hitting two Death Riders. Ishii kicker out of the first. I would have been tempted to give Ishii the win there. But just a great match from start to finish. No restholds anywhere.

WINNER: Jon Moxley
