NJPW G1 Climax 29 B Block Results Night 5 7.28.19

Toru Yano vs Hirooki Goto

Good guy Toru Yano holds the ropes open for his fellow CHAOS member. Yano tries getting the crowd to cheer for both men. Eventually Goto plays along and then throws his shirt over Goto’s face and tries to roll him up. Yano goes for a couple more roll ups, including trying a low blow kick with the ref distracted. But Goto ties up the legs of Yano and sits over him for the pinfall win.

WINNER: Hirooki Goto- At least they didn’t make Goto look bad here. Of course his charisma vacuum personality doesn’t match well with Yano’s comedy.

Tomohiro Ishii vs Juice Robinson

After Ishii knocks down Juice, they have a chop exchange. Juice gets the better of Ishii at first but then he taunts Ishii and Ishii responds. Juice’s headbutts don’t phase Ishii, so Juice connects with a Spinebuster. Juice starts firing rights but then Ishii throws forearms of his own. Ishii blocks a hurricarrana off the top and then hits a headbutt to the back of the head. Juice starts hulking up a bit and takes Ishii to the corner where he hits the cannonball. Juice hits a superplex but Ishii gets up. Juice misses the Juice Box, Ishii misses the sliding lariat and Ishii connects with a German suplex. Some forearms from Juice and he hits the Juice Box for two. Both men exchange finisher attempts. Juice ends up hitting a powerbomb for two. Ishii ends up knocking down Juice with some headbutts then a lariat for two. Juice counters a Brainbuster into a Jackhammer. Ishii blocks Pulp Friction with a Tiger suplex. Ishii hits the sliding lariat for two. Ishii follows up with the Brainbuster for the win.

WINNER: Tomohiro Ishii- Very good match. Easily Juice’s best of the tournament. Is there any person Ishii can’t have a good match with? I bet Taichi will test that.

Taichi vs Jeff Cobb

Taichi wants a handshake but Cobb doesn’t. Taichi offers Miho’s hand instead, and the distraction allows Taichi to go after Cobb. They go to the outside where Cobb tosses Taichi into the railing a couple times. Taichi throws Miho into the line of fire again. This distraction allows Taichi to use his mic on Cobb. They go by the US announce table and Taichi chokes Cobb with a chair. Cobb gets pissed with Taichi in the ring and drills Cobb with rights in the corner. Taichi ends up ducking a splash then hitting two enziguris. Cobb counters Taichi with two gut wrench suplexes and a piledriver for two. Taichi counters Tour of the Islands into a pin then two high kicks. Cobb blocks a kick and hits one of his own. Taichi throws the ref in front of Cobb, but Cobb kicks Taichi and hits the tour of the islands for the win.

WINNER: Jeff Cobb- Match was okay. Cobb needed a win somewhere and this works.

Shingo Takagi vs Jay White

Just like every White match so far he starts outside the ring. Shingo follows him so White attacks. But Shingo comes back in and shoulder tackles him. Gedo grabs Shingo’s leg on the apron, allowing White to escape. White ends up hitting a DDT on the outside. White backs Shingo into the apron and railing a few times. Red Shoes refuses to count the pin back in the ring because White keeps going to the outside. White rolls away from Shingo as he goes to the top. White then hits a corner suplex. White hits a lariat in the ropes and a Saito suplex, but Shingo bounces right back up with some of his own. White blocks the Pumping Bomber with a Flatliner then a spike suplex for two. They exchange forearms until Shingo knocks down White. Shingo goes for a clothesline but White falls down. Shingo counters Blade Runner into Noshi-gami for two. Shingo goes for a Pumping Bomber but Gedo grabs his leg. Singo hits a buckle bomb then a pumping bomber but only gets two. Shingo goes for Last of the Dragon but White grabs the ref, allowing Gedo to come in. Shingo knocks out Gedo and then hits Made in Japan for two. White counters Last of the Dragon into a couple of Dragon suplexes then hits Blade Runner for the win.

WINNER: Jay White- I thought this picked up in the last half of the math quite well, even with the typical Gedo shenanigans. Sucks to see Shingo taking this many losses but I get it from a booking standpoint.

Jon Moxley vs Tetsuya Naito

Naito takes his time taking his outfit off, which pisses off Moxley. After some forearm exchanges to start Naito rolls to the outside. Moxley begs him to come in and lays down. Naito comes in and then does the same. They go to the outside where Moxley throws the railing onto Naito. Moxley keeps control inside the ring. Moxley puts a chair around Naito’s ankle but Red Shoes stops him from using another. Naito then throws the other chair at Moxley and kicks it into him. Naito DDT’s Moxley onto a chair then sits on it and does the Tranqillo pose. Naito then runs down the ramp with Moxley in the chair and clotheslines him. Both men have exchanges of control in the ring for the next few minutes. Naito hits a Frankensteiner off the top, only to then run into a Moxley lariat.

Moxley hits a front DDT then a Regal knee for two. Both men bite each other. Naito then hits a short Destino for two. Moxley counters into a Death Rider for two, then a second one for the win.

WINNER: Jon Moxley- Wow. Legit surprised by that result. I thought the match was a bit below expectations. Moxley going undefeated on a part time schedule is odd to me.
