WWE NXT Review 10.16.19 w/Justin C
Tommaso Ciampa vs Angel Garza
I still can’t believe Ciampa is wrestling this soon after neck surgery. Some quick action early which ends in Garza asking for a handshake, but Garza enziguri kicks him. Garza goes for a dive but Ciampa pulls him out of the ring and throws him into the barricade. Ciamoa goes for the Fairy Tale Ending but Garza backs him into the corner. Garza dropkicks his knees then does the pants pull off. Garza throws the pants at Ciampa. Ciampa throws them back in Garza’s face and takes him out. Ciampa then knees Garza’s pants and hits the draping DDT, which is called Willow’s Bell, for the win.
WINNER: Tommaso Ciampa- Pretty much a Ciampa squash match. Garza still has potential as a mid card act.
Undisputed Era comes out and surrounds the ring. Strong hands Mauro a USB stick then they leave.
Back from break, we see the video from the USB playing and Velveteen Dream laid out at the hands of Undisputed Era.
Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch vs Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel
Lorcan and Burch work over Aichner until Aichner catches both of them with kicks. Barthel comes in but Burch catches him with a headbutt coming off the top. Burch hits a missile dropkick off the top but Barthel reverses Burch and throws him into the corner, then hits a basement dropkick.
Back from break we get the quick hot tag to Lorcan. Lorcan hits a dive to the outside then knocks Aichner onto Barthel on the outside then hits a twisting dive onto both of them. Aichner and Lorcan exchange chops. Barthel makes a blind tag. Lorcan hits a running forearm but misses the second one. Barthel hits one of his own. Barthel tags Aichner back in and takes out Burch with a dive. Aichner then hits a springboard moonsault of the top rope for two. Barthel comes back in and lands chops. But Aichner spinebusters him and Barthel hits a PK. They then hit a European uppercut bomb for the win.
WINNERS: Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel- Aichner is a guy that has some potential. He’s big and has a strong athletic ability. Imperium continues to look strong and I think they are still being built up for a War Games match in November.
Johnny Gargano video package. He says he isn’t sure what to think of Ciampa until he sees him face to face.
Io Shirai vs Kayden Carter
Carter got in more offense than I would have given her. It was a bit sloppy at times. But Io ends up catching her with a German suplex and the moonsault for the win.
WINNER: Io Shirai
Io says she wants Shayna. Rhea Ripley says next week she will put Bianca Belair in her place. And if Io mentions Rhea again she has no problem shutting Io up too.
William Regal says the winner of Lee/Dijakovic will fight Roderick Strong next week.
Keith Lee vs Dominik Dijakovic
Neither man can knock the other down early on. Lee hurts the left arm of Dijakovic so Lee starts working on that. Lee splashes down on the arm. Dijakovic catches Lee with a kick to the face then a clothesline for two. Dijakovic slows things down with a chin lock in the picture in picture break. Lee escapes and starts landing punches to the gut. Lee hits an avalanche splash and then a pounce. Lee goes for a running powerslam but Dijakovic chokes him and hits a choke bomb for two. They go to the top where Lee chops Dijakovic off then splashes down on his bad arm. Lee hits a Spirit Bomb. Dijakovic rolls to the outside.
Back in the ring, Lee hits a running elbow in the corner. But Dijakovic comes back with a cyclone kick for two. They exchange punches. Lee tries to suplex Dijakovic and struggles but eventually does it. Lee goes to the top. Dijakovic gets behind him and puts him in the electric chair position. Lee then hits a reverse ranna but only gets two. They go back to the top. Dijakovic can’t hurricarrana Lee. Out comes Roderick Strong who takes out both men causing a double DQ.
William Regal comes out and says next week’s match will be a triple threat.
Double DQ- I thought the match was very good. Probably their second best of the three. I have no problem with the Double DQ. It leaves open one more rubber match down the line.
Matt Riddle vs Bronson Reed
They fist bump before the match. Riddle hits a barrage of offense. Running knee, bro kick. Reed is able to get some offense in but this was pretty much a Riddle rebound win.
WINNER: Matt Riddle
Tegan Nox vs Taynara
I still can’t believe they have Taynara out here every week. She’s the Britt Baker of NXT, but I would say worse. There are only so many times you can do Judo kicks. But since she’s the heel we see a lot of that here. Nox ends up winning with the Shiniest Wizard.
WINNER: Tegan Nox
After the match Shayna Baszler comes out. Dakota Kai came out to congratulate Nox. Shayna says Nox doesn’t deserve a rematch and she is running out of limbs to rehab.
Killian Dain vs BOA
BOA charges at Dain early but after that it is all Dain. Dain ends up winning with three straight Vader bombs and a grounded half nelson.
WINNER: Killian Dain
Pete Dunne comes out for his match, but Dain is still walking to the back. Dain gets his fingers snapped.
Pete Dunne vs Damian Priest
Dunne works over the fingers of Priest early on. Dunne jumps down on Priest’s twisted arm inside the ring and on the steps. They get to the apron where Priest boots Dunne off. Priest lays the boots to Dunne in the corner and goes to the top. Dunne meets him up there and hits an avalanche suplex. Dunne lands kicks to the legs of Priest and follows those up with chops. Dunne hits a step up enziguri then a dropkick to the knee. Dunne connects on a snap German suplex and double stomps Priest’s hands. Priest rolls to the outside but Dunne hits him with a corner moonsault off the top. Back in the ring Dunne hits a sitout powerbomb for two.
Priest catches Dunne with an enziguri of his own and follows it up with a Razor’s Edge. Priest hits a dive to the outside and follows it up with a Frankensteiner on the inside. Priest then hits a sitout chokeslam for two. They exchange punches and knees. Priest ends up hitting a hard lariat on Dunne. We get some finisher counters. Dunne knocks Priest down and goes for a moonsault but Priest gets his knees up. Dunne gets out of a Razor’s Edge by going after Priest’s fingers. They get backed into the corner as the ref breaks them up. The ref gets out but Priest kicks Dunne in the balls as the ref has his back turned. Priest then hits The Reckoning for the win.
WINNER: Damian Priest- Excellent match. I have been on the Priest bandwagon for awhile and this match shows he has improved since coming to NXT. That wasn’t all Dunne. I think Priest has potential down in NXT and I think there are good things to come. Dunne can afford a loss here.
